Great movie! Its funny and touching. And I'm glad it gave honor and respect to the original which is a classic. I have nothing negative to say at all.

Nothing but politial over tones

I made it to the first 25 minutes and had to stop it. So disappointed in Edie Murphy trying to push liberal political speeches. Hollywood has lost its way. So sad.

This movie is bad and doesn't live up to the original. It's called Coming 2 America but most of the movie is in Zumunda. Not a big deal, but I would have loved to see Akeem be even more lost in NY than his first visit. This is clearly a feminist film where all the men are incompetent and women are vastly superior. And the two white guys in the film are bad. Louie Anderson and the racist hiring manager Mr. Duke. And yes, his great Uncles were racist, so that means that he's racist automatically.

Akeem is criticized for not changing the Kingdom but he's only been King for five minutes and every woman complains how he hasn't changed anything, and the subplot about his assassination is dropped halfway. He also made a promise to his dying father, but is criticized for trying to find his son. This movie is simply a vehicle for setting up the eldest daughter to become Queen. And I love Wesley Snipes, but he is a court jester in the film and not the military dictator he's portrayed to be. I got a few laughs out of it, which is why I didn't give it a 1-star.

Oh, and by Feminist standards, Akeem was drugged and had sex with a woman he didn't want to, that is sexual assault (I'd use the r-word, but I'm sure my post would be taken down). And one whiff of pot wouldn't affect his judgement so severely.

There was already a big question as to why this story needed to be (re)told. They would of had to put together something compelling. There's a ton of talent with the cast, but the story is so very beneath the actors it's just a waste. What this should have been is just a 30th year Coming to America Reunion Special with some great stories about how the original was made. That would have saved the writers the embarrassment of putting actual names to credit line for "written by" and "screen play adapted by".

A very poorly done caricature of the first film. It was trying WAY too hard to capture the magic of the original and it fell flat ! I also had to roll my eyes when Semi spoke the line about Obama "uniting" America; that was absurd ! Overall the film had a few funny lines yet completely lacked substance. I could tell Eddie Murphy was desperate for laughs when he put in a scene of a farting lion. I'd give it a C- !

Wanted to watch this before I let my 12 year old see it.
I guess I forgot what the first one was like.
Not for a child... Too much talk about women in a very specific way.
So tired of the messages we send our children. Not every american white person came from money or has money. Not every american blk person lives in the projects and not every girl needs to prove she is better then the opposite sex.

The movie wasn't altogether terrible. It had many familiar faces from the 1st movie. It had a few funny moments. But on the whole, the plot was very uninspired and disinteresting. And it has way too much Leslie Jones playing the same obnoxious character she plays in everything. The movie plays on nostalgia but ruins it with things like crappy cheap new versions of songs from the original soundtrack. It might be worth your time if you were a fan of the original, but be advised to manage your expectations. One thing is for sure, you'll never hear anyone say "My favorite movie of all time is Coming to America 2."

I see a lot of low reviews for Coming 2 America. I too found it to be only worthy of a disappointing two-star rating but my rating has nothing to do with politics or cultural views. My rating is based solely on the movie alone which was as disappointing as it gets. Imagine eagerly waiting for your 35th class reunion. Now, imagine getting there and the food, decorations and music are all super-cheesy. Everyone seems disinterested and it’s just a total disaster. That perfectly describes Coming 2 America. I expected a belly busting laugh fest but instead got a lame plot, uninspired characters, unfunny comedy and many other disappointments. I recently read a news article claiming Eddie Murphy declined a pitch from Micheal B Jordan to remake Coming 2 America. It claimed that Murphy declined Jordan’s idea because it wasn’t original enough. Well, if this is what’s considered “original” I may have to rethink my definition of the word. In between the countless flashbacks to the original film and practically the entire cast revising their roles, including an elephant, Coming 2 America felt dated, regurgitated and rides the nostalgia train to a fault. Many of the jokes are rehashed from the original but fall flat 35 years later. Also, the original Coming to America felt more open and realistic. It made you feel like you were in Zamunda and New York. The sequel feels fake and confined, like it was shot entirely on a tiny soundstage with CGI filling in the blanks. If like me, you were a big fan of the original, prepare to be disappointed. It’s like the entire happy ending of the original was undone. I couldn’t care less about the so-called politics. I’m more upset that yet another classic was ruined by a terrible and unnecessary sequel.

Such a missed opportunity at a classic original

Unfortunately for the viewers... this felt like an incredibly lay script with extremely predictable outcomes with even more predictable social situations. In fact, I gave it an extra star because we have Eddie Murphy, Wesley Snipes and Arsenio Hall on the same screen. Even by mistake this film should have been funny. But, it isn't. In fact, the ending credits have funnier cut scenes than the movie itself.

The good - Eddie Murphy playing multiple roles again. Seeing Wesley Snipes in films again. Shari Headley is timelessly gorgeous and seemingly doesn't age.

The bad - Everything else. And I do mean everything. Lazy script. Mediocre acting. Extremely predictable outcomes that they've already made about a million times in 2020 already.

This film felt like a cash grab on the name and a train wreck in reality. After all these years it's baffling to try and understand why they would rush this to market in its current form. And even more baffling as to why someone didn't screen this and say something. I'm guessing someone did and was ignored. An easy to forget film that everyone will watch and most people will hate. Such a waste of talent.

Too cliche and political..

Not as enjoyable as the first one. Sure, it's supposed to be a comedy, but, this sequel is just too factitious, a cliche and a lot of political mumbo jumbo within. Blackface, racism issues are addressed and embedded within. I also don't like any movie type that sexual women, and this sequel more than does that in many occasions.

For a comedy, it wasn't really too comical, and unlike the romance aspects between Prince Akeem and Lisa in the first that was more realistic and enjoyable, this romantic aspects with the bastard Prince and the female barber was just too factitious. For a kingdom, made-believe as it is, where women in the movie in Zamunda are displayed in a sexualized and sub-servant like nature, you have a young pretty female barber that tends to the bastard Prince's hair... and then they fall in love? Come on.. ha ha.

Sorry.. no hater here; just someone who doesn't really enjoy this second Coming 2 America as I did of the first. The plot of the bastard Prince born from Akeem having been drugged by a wild-party going ill-mannered woman in Queen, that occurred from the first Coming to America, is sort of stupid. Then, practically, Prince Akeem was drugged and date-rapped by one of Queen's sex adrenalized immoralized women. Prince Akeem, who was wise and very composed in the first Coming to America would let that happen. Come on.. Ha ha
