Rating: 4.5 Stars
Lexington House, overlooking New England's jagged coastline, has been the witness to madness and murder throughout its history. But for decades that malice has thankfully lain silent... until now. Jenna Duffy is a member of the nation's foremost paranormal forensic team. Yet nothing could have ever prepared her for the vicious slayings that once again took place at Lexington House or for that of the the sole suspect in the case, a 17-year-old boy. With the young man's life hanging in the balance, Jenna teams up with hotshot attorney Samuel Hall to prove just who (or what) is responsible for viciously ending the lives of those who reside inside Lexington House.
Normally I'd probably have given this book four stars but being that it was SO much better than the previous two stories in this series, I chose to go ahead and give it five. The fact that I hardly ever wanted to put it down and finished it in less than two days also helped. Not only did this book have a wonderful blend of romance and suspense, but I enjoyed the historical and paranormal elements too. It's been a long time since I've read, watched or just plain seen anything on the Salem witch trials, so this was a nice little history lesson. Honestly, it was just enough to whet my appetite and when I was finished I couldn't help but look for more info about the tragedy.
As for Jenna and Sam, I thought they made a lovely and charming couple. Their chemistry was incredible and I ended up absolutely adoring Jenna, who up until this point has been pretty low-key and seemed to play more of a background role for the Krewe. Jackson and Angela (Book 1) also play large parts in this one which I was very happy with. From the murders to the ghosts this story was graphic, heartbreaking, and often gave me the chills. Start to finish, this book grabbed a hold of me and never once let go. The only things that bothered me were Sam who acted like a macho jerk early on and the fact that there were some name mix-ups that threw me off a few times.
