This episode finds Captain Brynn Jameson and his Yellowjacket crew continually hounded by enemy Zariat forces as they head for the Engel shipyard on the planet Ipli. They are forced into crash-landing next to an active volcano and magma flow, on the side away from the shipyard. They need repairs and help to find their way around the magma field, but the Engel inhabitants speak a different language and the planet is also home to vast hordes of scavengers who attack everyone, including each other. Can the crew survive to reach the ships they need to help fight the war for their star system?
This story is well-written and provides me the escape and entertainment I look for in space opera. The crew find plenty of action, fights against overwhelming odds, several surprises, and even enjoy some light-hearted moments. This is an easy read – I finished it in one sitting. Relax and enjoy the romp through space! I received an ARC – this review is my honest opinion. I also purchased a copy on release to support this great team. I’m looking forward to the rest of this fun series!
Star:s Dark 2: Last Run has Brynn and the crew of The Yellow Jacket as well as the flyer Lightning Bug on a planet, Ipli, hiding near an active volcano magma stream from the overwhelming numbers of Zariat. But they cannot hide out there forever if something is to be done to do something about the menace of the Zariat. But Impli is also home to an alien race, the Kr'ol. And host also to inimical hordes of scavengers intent on getting their hands on the Yellow Jacket and the Lightning Bug. Talk of getting caught on two fronts simultaneously! Might the Kr'ol prove to be the miracle to escape the Ipli? Action in Stars Dark 2 is frenetic and nonstop. And even a couple of surprises managed to get my eyebrows raised in amazement. Enjoy.
I love the banter among the crew members in this series and also that there are non-human crew members. The aliens described in this book (& this series) are uniquely awesome! I have enjoyed several other books by these authors and will continue to read what they publish. They combine action with plot in a way that that you are able to relax a bit in between. I have read books that were exciting and well-written, yet had so many battles and chases that it was all there was to the book! Here you get an understanding of what the goal is, both short and long range and actually see some of it being accomplished. This is worth reading but warning: you will have to buy the next book - there is a cliffhanger.
The adventures of Captain Jameson and the crew “Yellowjacket” continue in “Last Run”; where Captain Jameson lands on an Engel planet behind the lines that is supposed to be a depot for Engel ships. He hopes to bring them into the fight against the Darian and the invading Zariat. In the process they visit another planet and meet another Engel species the “Kr’ol” who help them repair their ships and navigate the Lava flows to get to the Ship depot. They also run into danger in the form of scavengers and we get to meet another crew member, Corporal Zayim a “Voiel” with shapeshifter abilities and a badass reputation. While the story line is a bit choppy, The action is constant and it leaves you wanting more.
Brynn and his crew are on the run and trying to survive and stay ahead of the Zariat. This time they run into trouble on Ipli and run into some good and bad luck. It was fun watching the non-stop action as Bryn tries to figure out how to keep his ship and crew alive and out of enemy hands and still come up with a plan to defeat the Zariat. Some new friends are made and a plan hatched. Now they have to pull it off. I laughed and groaned but was entertained the whole time with the nonstop action and fighting. Now cannot wait to see what happens next and if the crew survive what comes next. They have the luck of the insane. I received an advance copy and this is my honest review - loved it.
This 2nd book "Last Run", Capt. Brynn Jameson and his crew have crashed on the planet Ipli. The planet is inhabited by aliens who speak many languages and are scavengers out for themselves and what they can get. There are other aliens who may help the crew get repair parts but to get to them is a crazy trek. This was a arc copy and I love everything this duo writes, It is only book 2 so you have time to get 1 and 2 to catch up. Because there is gonna be a whole lot more action and crazy happenings going on.
Captain Jameson and the Yellowjacket keep trying to find a safe haven, but Darian and the Zariat are relentless in their pursuit. Love this book reminiscent of the old pulp magazines, just fun to read. Grab a copy and get ready for non stop action and space battles.
