How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

The unit arrived in a very timely manner. Easy set up.

There is an awful lot of things to like about this, especially for the price. This unit is one of the very few I found that will accommodate either a car, RV and Truck. When you set it up you can set it for RV/Truck and enter not only length but weight(for weight restricted bridges) and that all important HEIGHT . I tested it yesterday and it did warn me that on my chosen route II had a bridge with a clearance well below my stated height restriction. Very helpful, especially when one encounters unforeseen detours along a chosen route.

What I especially like is that if you deviate from the units chosen route it does quickly figure out that you chose a different route and it recalculates from that point. Unlike my Subaru that absolutely insists that you make a U turn and conform to its stated route regardless of what you want.

There IS some sort of WINDOWS browser that enables you to do some internet searching presumably through a phone as a data hotspot but I have not tested this.
It also plays music and videos if that is of any interest.

The only real negatives I found with this unit is 1. It is only Windows based so updating maps might be a problem fo MacONLY users. The company says that there is a way to do it so---just to test the Mac system I checked in with customer service to update my maps and received a IMMEDIATE cordial response that made perfect sense and assured me that based on my order no I had the latest maps. So, Customer service seems to work very well.but I have not tested it yet. 2.The programing does not include a GO HOME button like all the others. Again, there IS a work around by putting your home into the Favorites but in my case there was not enough room to enter the complete address---it works well enough but looks incomplete. I suggest lengthening the data inout to allow for a few more characters and add a Proper GO HOME button.

All in all--when you compare this to units that cost far more, this is a good deal.

I bought this for my class a truck. I like the features I like the unit period. Here's the big BUT map ware is outdated and have been able to up grade it. Which makes it useless don't buy. Get a Garmin or rand n McNally. Save yourself the aggravation. To bad cause it has nice features. One site it directed me to was free map upgrade site which turned out to be a major scam.had to replace atm card and stop charges made by them. Yah not happy

I'm an active duty CMSGT female who had to drive to Lakewood, CO last two weeks. First of all, this device arrived before the expected date...great! I was very surprised about the features, updated maps, settings, on-road navigation, modifying routes, alternate directions, Facebook, cell phone connection, etc. Performance quality...distinguished performance in cutting through confusion, excels in tedious searches, and other accurate abilities/strengths. This device was an important contributor to the success than and is still a success. Glad I always try something new. A+.

VINE VOICE
5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT GPS for truck or car with EXCELLENT iGo GPS software from NNG
Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2022
Color: 7 inch Window BlackVerified Purchase
I am kind of amazed by some of the negative reviews of this GPS system. Many of the vociferous complaints seem to come down to people lacking the patience to work through the menus, learn all the ways the system can be setup, understand the defaults, or even look at the manual. Some people complaining of odd round about routes don't seem to understand that the default vehicle type is "truck", as in semi tractor trailer. Granted, the manual is very mediocre, a typical assault on the English language using Google translate level grammar and weird tenses. The manual also doesn't cover a number of important menus features.

All that said, it's important to understand that there's hardware and there's software. The device itself is mostly just what you would expect for a budget priced 7" tablet. It's OK, nothing great and nothing awful. The software however is the iGo GPS software and maps system from NNG, a company that is a major supplier of navigation and screen based control interfaces for a wide number of automakers around the world. This is really excellent GPS software, and a mature commercial product. It is MUCH more configurable than Garmin's units, has a number of features Garmin does not have, and for me it has worked wonderfully. I did a direct head to head between this unit and the Garmin DriveSmart 65 for the same destinations around town and then sent the Garmin back for a refund. The OHREX unit with iGo software was clearly superior.

The main thing the Garmin DriveSmart 65 has going for it is a higher contrast and higher res screen, slightly better 3D map rendering, and a bunch of add on info frills like Trip Advisor, park guides, etc. Otherwise the Garmin just didn't measure up, and frequently presented routes that were direct but just didn't make sense to anyone who knew the best way already. The NNG on the OHREX software consistently presented routes that were what I knew from having made the trip before, picking the way myself, or were similar to what Google Maps suggested. It also calculated alternatives faster and was able to calculate multiple alternatives, not just one extra.

Some people have complained about the following points, all of which can be "fixed" and/or adjusted in settings:

* Can't turn off over speed limit. Yes you can, the voice warning over over speed limit can be switched off in settings.

* Don't like the voice used for navigation prompts. There are many different voices that can be selected in multiple languages in settings.

* The system sends you on around about routes. The default vehicle type is "truck", as in semi tractor trailer type. The vehicle type, as well as dimensions for RVs and trucks with trailers, can be selected in settings. This has a direct impact on the routes the system will suggest.

* There's no way to adjust the sound or the brightness. Yes there is, just select the menu icon and click on the settings icon.

* The system selects bad routes. No it doesn't, you just aren't using the right route profile. The system has a number of profiles for fast, short, "green" etc routes. Each one of those route types will influence what routes the system suggests.

* The screen is too bright at night. No it isn't, you just don't have the night time mode enabled, or have not selected the night skin for the night profile. You can also select gray night time menu and interface elements. The system also has a 2D and 3D and "height", i.e. map zoom, setting.

There are many more examples. Some people are just violently inpatient and also too lazy to work through all the settings to see how the whole system works. This is the same software that some TomTom units used. In fact, buried in one of the sub sub menus one of the options still has a TomTom icon.

This unit is sold under a several different brand names on Amazon in the US and in Europe, a typical bare bones marketing strategy by Chinese manufacturers that get products to market by using Amazon as their main sales channel, sellers who maintain a pretty minimal staff to answer emails and so forth. OHREX, and the other brandings of the same device, all claim "free map upgrades" but there really isn't much of an interface on their sites for getting those upgrades. That said, unless you're living in or being a delivery driver to a new subdivision that's only been mapped in the last year or two, or just have to have every single latest address for every single business in the US, then this whole map update thing is not a big deal. Most roads and highways either never change, in your lifetime, or so rarely change that obsessing about a new map every year is sort of a waste of time.

The only real downside to the device is the flimsy bracket used to attach the unit to a difficult to adjust suction mount. I ditched both and replaced them with another mount and clamp. Oh, and the miserably bad instruction manual. But anyone with some curiosity can learn the whole system in and out in an hour of just playing around with the device and exploring all it's various menus and options and the interplay of various settings on the routing outcome.

So to sum up: an average 7" tablet device with really excellent iGo GPS software system from NNG, that I think much more full featured and configurable than Garmin, a bargain price and pretty much Amazon only distribution but priced accordingly. I bought two of them.

Whoa! What a very nice product. Packaged well and arrived undamaged. The screen is huge and very clear. Setup is easy. With the push of a button you can change vehicles and it automatically calculates acceptable roads for that vehicle. Did I mention...Awesome? Loaded with functions. More than I will ever use, but you never know. This is a world wide Sat-Nav with great customer service and support.

I am a Truck Driver so I use the Truck Navigation mode and find it hard to see in the day light. Some addresses are not available to search for. To save favorite locations is confusing and the voices are annoying. I do like the 3D view and street names and cities that are displayed as I drive. The chosen routs are good and usually the fastest rout.
For the money it does a good job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great GPS

We received this a few weeks ago and I was quite impressed with the graphics, the accuracy, and the speed of updates such as course corrections. Love that you can put in a vehicle type - we bought it to use with our motorhome. Gave it a good try over the weekend on trip just across the state line. To test is, I programed the Ohrex GPS, and my wife put in the destination on her i-phone Apple Maps. Initially the time of arrival was about 20 minutes different on a 2 hour drive. Apple maps had us getting there sooner. The routes were identical. As we drove the GPS arrival time adjusted by a couple of minutes to an earlier arrival time, but the Apple maps just kept adding time. Turns out that when we arrived, the Ohrex GPS initial prediction of arrival time was only a few minutes off, whereas Apple Maps was off by at least 20 minutes. I love that once you near your destination the GPS actually gives off the house numbers as you drive by. This is real bonus when it is so hard to actually read street addresses. Another feature I like is the automatic zoom in and zoom out. When on a limited access roadway, it zooms out to give the "big picture" view..... .only the information you need. As you near a destination, of turn off the highway on to local roads, the GPS automatically zooms in to give more detail, such as intersecting street names. This is a really good GPS, and at a really great price.
