How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Pheadra Farah
4.0 out of 5 starsEasy, engaging family drama
Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2021
As always KL Slater writes an engaging story and even though there were a few twists, one of which I'd guessed early on, the story was still enjoyable.
Fundamentally, this is a story of betrayal. The trouble with betrayal is that it doesn't come from your enemies, as main character Esme discovers. Her son Zachary was run over by a hit and run driver years earlier leaving him with a damaged leg. Her husband Owen is less than stellar and they have separated and his parents are downright unlikeable. Add to this that the company she has founded is under extreme pressure to deliver on their latest podcasts about a woman who murdered her abusive husband, and you're set for a good family drama. To add to her stress, her sister Michelle who works for the company has been attacked and is in ICU. 4 stars.

3.0 out of 5 starsThis was Okay. Not really what I was expecting though

3 1/2 stars.
Simone killer her husband while her young son played in the next room. Simone had suffered years of abuse at the hands of her husband and could not take it anymore and one day just snapped. Esme runs a podcast and has secured an exclusive interview with Simone. Someone does not want Esme to tell Simone’s story though, and when Esme’s sister is left for dead in the woods, Esme life begins to unravel as secrets are revealed.
I went into this book thinking it was going to be more about Simone and her story, but in reality, it was about Esme and the events in the past that come to surface in her life.
I had things figured out pretty quick in regard to Simone. And the events with Esme’s sister and the accident her young son had a couple of years before were more the focal point of the story in my opinion. I did enjoy that story, but it did feel like it lagged in some parts. I did like the character of Esme. She was determined to keep her and her son’s life together with everything that was going on. She was one tough cookie.

A weak Lifetime Channel story - if that. Had to read 2/3 of the book before it was interesting. In my whole life I've only stopped reading 1 book before the ending. This was very close to becoming my second.

This is not a book. Rather, it is a collection promotions and adverts for books by the author. What a scam.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hard to believe it's K L Slater
Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2021
I usually love the author's books but this one is terrible. Its plot is so glaringly obvious that you needn't read the book. The writing is pedestrian, and the back and forth nature of podcasts and narrative is irritating.

1.0 out of 5 stars Predictable and badly written

This is a poor effort from Slater. The storyline is tedious and predictable. The main characters are irritating female stereotypes and, of course, the the male characters are weak or bad. A tiresome trope in this genre.

1.0 out of 5 stars So disappointing

I’ve loved all of K L Slater’s previous books but I gave up on this a third of the way through.

It’s just badly written and so dull.

The timeline skips all over the place and it isn’t clear what chapters are taking place well.

The podcast excerpts are interminably boring.

And the main character Esme is cold and annoying. Admittedly maybe she’s meant to be that way but it made it difficult to care about the storyline.

I thought I would give up after a couple of chapters but as I’ve loved the author’s previous books I decided to persevere. But after about a third of it I just couldn’t take any more. I just had no interest in finding out what happened, and I couldn’t take any more unnecessary exclamation marks and lack of manners from Esme.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a thriller

This is just rather a dull book about a dull woman who is bringing up her child. He has been involved in a hit and run and it’s blatantly obvious who did it. She is busy interviewing a prisoner who is convicted of murder and is more interested in that than what’s going on at home. A lot of it is very repetitive and you could skip half the book and it would make no difference. In the end I didn’t care.
