Years after escaping from a sex trafficking ring, Kennedy Brooks wrote a book and gives back to other victims by speaking at meetings about her experience. But is someone mad at her for speaking out? Arriving home late one night, her uber driver is nearly to her apartment when she senses something is wrong. Turns out the apartment building where she lives is engulfed in flames. Since Kennedy has had some recent scary situations, she has the driver stop just outside the apartment complex parking lot and she calls the first person she can think of: Reyes McKenzie. She has known him from the gym he owns, and she instinctively knows that he will help her. While waiting for Reyes to arrive, two strange men come out of the shadows and attempt to grab her. Kennedy fights them off and jumps into the uber and has her driver take her away. Later, she meets up with Reyes. He immediately believes her story of being threatened and takes her to his home to spend the night. Is Kennedy now safe—or has her troubles just begun?
What Kennedy doesn’t know is that Reyes and his family are secretly trying to break up sex trafficking rings. He thinks she is a strong person as he listens to her story about her past and what she is doing to stop others from falling into the cycle. Reyes doesn’t mention to her at first what his family is up to, but it doesn’t take long for her to figure out that the gym is only a front for what they do. And it turns out that there is indeed someone after Kennedy. Reyes will do whatever it takes to protect her as well as a friend of Kennedy’s named Jodi who was also once kidnapped and forced into sex trafficking. Like Kennedy, Jodi escaped, but she is a loner who operates under the radar while she tries to take down the bad guys. But it appears that there is a bullseye on Jodi, as there is Kennedy. Reyes and his family will have to pull all their resources together to take out the perps.
Things get tense in STRONGER THAN YOU KNOW, the second book in Lori Foster’s The McKenzies of Ridge Trail. The McKenzie family are rebels who operate under the radar in their quest to rid the area of sex trafficking rings. Reyes had encountered Kennedy at his gym and knew about her past due to the book. He has also had more than a passing interest in her from afar. Now Kennedy is under Reyes’s roof—and their mutual attraction soon explodes into passion. But first things first…they need to figure out who is trying to kidnap—and probably kill—her, and flush them out. In STRONGER THAN YOU KNOW, there is plenty of suspense and action, with some sensual heat in the bedroom between Kennedy and Reyes. Their attraction has been simmering for a while, but now they get to act upon it. Once Kennedy is safe, what happens to our lovers’ relationship?
If you love heart racing action and the good guys winning the battle, don’t miss STRONGER THAN YOU KNOW. Kennedy and Reyes are endearing and perfect for each other. In the meantime, get ready for the final book in the series, WATCHING OVER YOU, out in late December 2021.
This story is about Reyes McKenzie, the second of the three McKenzie siblings. We met Reyes and Kennedy in Cade's story No Holding Back. This book can be read completely as a stand alone but having read the first book you feel more connected to the characters and in Reyes and Kennedy's story you get so much more on the background of what makes the family seek justice. Reyes owns a gym and while dates his fair share of women he never gets involved with them until Kennedy walks in and he is instantly drawn to her sensing there is definitely more to Kennedy than she lets on. But Kennedy seems immune to Reyes charm. Until she finds herself in trouble her first thought is to contact Reyes for help. And when Reyes answers her call he and his family take on the danger to make Kennedy finally safe. This story has a great deal of emotion and with the addition of the mama cat Chimera and her babies it makes a great read.
This is a great story but I am really looking forward to Madison's story in book 3 and keeping up with her brothers and of course Chimera and the kitties.
Kennedy Brooks is returning home from her lecture tour when she discovers her apartment building is on fire. Kennedy is a survivor of a sex trafficking ring and has learned to be aware of her surroundings and unusual events happening around her. Her apartment building on fire qualifies as an unusual event. Daring to trust she calls Reyes McKenzie, the owner of the gym where she works out. Following a joint effort to rescue a cat and her kittens Kennedy has gotten to know Reyes better and trusts him enough to call for help. Little does Kennedy realize she has called on the perfect man to keep her safe.
Reyes McKenzie works with his family to go after sex traffickers. Not only does the family try to ferret out the scum they help victims with lawyers, jobs and financial help to get the victims back on their feet. Owning a gym in the "not the best neighborhood" part of town is good cover as well as a great place to overhear interesting information. Reyes was attracted to Kennedy from the first time he saw her at the gym. His instincts told him she was hiding something. When she called and asked for his help Reyes rushed to her side. Keeping Kennedy safe is his top priority. Falling in love with her was quite unexpected.
Stronger Than You Know by Lori Foster is the second book in her McKenzies of Ridge Trail series. I found this book to be an edge-of-your-seat thriller from the get-go. It starts out immediately with a dangerous action scene situation and the storyline is full of action and suspense from there. Kennedy and Reyes appear at first to be an unlikely couple but Kennedy's bravery and Reyes' devotion seal the deal for the two of them. This series deals with the topic of sex trafficking, a tough topic. I applaud Ms. Foster for directing attention to this evil. I totally enjoyed the story and look forward to the next book in the series, Watching Over You. This is little sister Madison McKenzie and police detective Crosby Albertson's story.
Stronger Than You Know is a book two of a series. For me, it is much better enjoyed after having read book one – to know the overall storyline, the wonderful characters, etc. – but it certainly can be read alone. I’m loving this series so I wouldn’t miss any of these books.
This book is about Reyes McKenzie, the second of the three McKenzie siblings. To say he is a kick you-know-what kinda guy is an understatement. He also covers it up by being a charmer, alpha, serial dater…never really getting involved too deeply. And along comes Kennedy Brooks…
Kennedy is such a strong character – I loved her. She is in very big trouble, though, and has no one she can turn to, except she thinks of Reyes in one very scary situation she finds herself in. Kennedy has a horrific event in her past but she is trying to live her life the best way she can, by helping other women like herself, but sometimes even a strong, independent woman needs a helping hand.
Once again, in this story, Ms. Foster handles a horrific event(s) with understanding, compassion, and eventually love. I can’t retell Kennedy’s story as it weaves all around the characters. Reyes, and his family, take her under their wing and in the meantime, Reyes falls hard. And so does Kennedy.
Amazing story. Kept me on the edge of my seat. The McKenzie family is becoming more…familiar and open; and sometimes, the things that they say made me snort-laugh. They all have crazy skills and Reyes’ are highlighted in this story. My heart went out to Kennedy, Reyes…all the McKenzies…and all the women out there who have been touched by horrific events. I highly recommend.
Stronger Than You Know is the second book in the McKenzies of Ridge Trail. It can be read as a part of the series or as a standalone book. Lori Foster is known for her great characters. Her contemporary romances always have great characters (alpha males and strong female characters), descriptive fast moving action, family dynamics and all of the feels. Her sexy stories are a great escape from the normal day to day grind.
The McKenzies of Ridge Trail seek justice for those who need it the most victims of human trafficking. They have businesses that front for the real work that the family does. They have faced tragedy and come out as a unit to help others in the name of the one that they couldn't save.
Reyes is the second of the three McKenzie siblings. He owns a gym and likes to date but he never lets them in, not until Kennedy. She catches his attention and he is instantly drawn to her. She on the other hand has been through tough times and come out stronger than ever. Kennedy comes home one night and senses that something is amiss as her Uber driver starts to drive up to her building. She calls Reyes and while waiting for him to arrive she is confronted by two guys. She fights to get away and meets up with Reyes. He steps up to help her and as they work through who is after her they open up and find out that they are better together than they ever were apart. This book is full of suspense, action, romance and family dynamics.
The story starts off with Kennedy coming home from a trip to find her apartment building burning down to the ground. She calls Reyes who jumps out of bed to help her. Then 2 guys start walking towards her... The story moves from that point on. The McKenzies are a very intriguing family. Something is always happening. I loved the parts with the cat and kittens. This is a topic that Lori Foster has dealt with before. Her Men Who Walk on the Edge of Honor series is like this too. It deals with the horrors of trafficking, and they aren't cops who are dealing with it. Does this happen in real life? The reality is that trafficking does happen, even here in the US. Do some people step up on their own to stop it? I wouldn't be surprised. However, people need to remember that this is a work of fiction, so Lori has a lot more leeway in her plotting than most people do.
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful an action and character oriented storyline that has some steamy scenes. The characters are vibrant and kickass. I can't wait to see Madison's story.
I met Kennedy and Reyes first in No Holding Back and they intrigued me. In Stronger Than You Know, that first interest I had in both of them definitely grew. Kennedy had fought so hard to be in control of her life again, only to realize that someone out there did not plan on leaving her alone. Reyes - in all his I don't want commitment glory - felt something for her the first time they met.
When Kennedy found herself in danger, she called Reyes, and he showed up ready to take on the world to help her.
In this novel, the readers learned more about all the McKenzies, and what they do to help others. I love that Reyes and Cade got a better understanding of their dad in this installment thanks to Sterling and Kennedy!
The romance between Kennedy and Reyes was a slow burn - because Reyes was such a gentleman, and Kennedy didn't fully understand why she had these feelings for him. They were hot together, and I think I loved them so much because their foundation is built on trust and respect.
I received an ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review. Trigger warning - this series could be triggering to some individuals. I have mixed opinions on the subject matter of this book, however I will point out that working with victims has jaded me some. If I take my personal feelings out of the picture, I can say that this book is well written, fast paced, and has likable characters. I have no doubt that to someone who doesn't work with victims of violence or human trafficking on a daily basis this book would be a great read. Even with mixed feelings I liked this book and would recommend it to my friends.
Intense read. Strong male leads that have a protective instinct like no other. Family dimension that are so strong with love and respect for each. Reyes and Kennedy are awesome together. As Kennedy learns to be stronger, Reyes learns what it’s like to have a partner. Evil bad guys that do anything to get even. All with a family that helps other to be free and safe. Put in a cute cross eyed cat with kittens and a houseman that’s part of the family who takes over cat. Has honor, love and humor , what’s not to love. Thank you 😊. Now the waiting begins again. ❤️❤️❤️📖📚📕
The novel begins with a rush of adrenaline, and that’s exactly how the Chemistry feels between Kennedy Brooks and Reyes McKenzie. From the beginning they have an obvious connection, a respect, a trusting friendship. But there’s also layers of interest and romantic connection that build through the book as Reyes knocks down Kennedy’s walls. It’s a slow burn to them finally giving in to one another but that’s the way I like it!
One of the things I love about Lori Foster books is that she finds a way to mesh mystery with romance, and she doesn’t disappoint with this book. There’s this whole undercurrent of danger in the book, to an extent that I had to take breaks reading it at night as my imagination would get away from me. While this is something Lori does so well, this puzzle is specifically very dark, and not something a lot of readers might be able/willing to handle. I did have a little bit of trouble keeping track of who was hunting after who and for what reason, but that issue resolves itself quickly enough.
I also really love this family, the McKenzies, and their dynamic. The insight into their training, the open hearted moments, all together make for an interesting family you want to see succeed. I do hope babies are in the future for the couples! I also cannot wait for the next book, as the story of sister Madison is teased in this one and I am intrigued!
