How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Sometimes one forgets what it was really like for the people in France during the second world war. The risks that the brave individuals took to save their fellow countrymen who were targeted simply because of their religion. Couldn't put the book down.

The book was burdensome. The author seem bent on impressing the reader with her facility at language. Scarcely a page went by without a lengthy quote in French, German, or Italian. There were too many characters to keep straight initially. Because of all the game playing, the plot really suffered…..this was a difficult read.

I just couldn’t get into this book. It took forever to get going. Characters we’re confusing and poorly developed early in the book. I was tired of the dog, Nanee’s clothing, and the stuffed kangaroos by the end,

Too much about about the various artists and their get togethers etc. Very little about actual working for the resistance. The constant references to what stuffed animals might be thinking etc. was border line nauseating and contributed nothing. Wish I'd saved my money

The story line was very good and that’s what prevented me from putting this book aside early on. There was excessive use of artistic symbolism and I, not being much appreciative of art, just found it tiresome. Many trials and tribulations throughout the book became repetitive and tempted me to skip over parts, which I can never bring myself to do. Overall this was a book that I slogged through and wish I hadn’t.

Historical fiction is by far my favorite genre, particularly WWII. The Postmistress of Paris was not even close to being the historical fiction book I was expecting. A very slow-moving story with very little intensity. When things would start to get tense, the chapter would end and the next would begin after a time jump with no indication as to how the moment played out. Without these explanations everything just seemed to happen too easily - I am certain that would not have been the case. I will say that the last half of the book was far better than the first half, so if you can stick with it you might enjoy it a little bit. 2.5 rounded to 3 stars because of Edouard and Luki. And the kangaroo.

One of the only good things about the book is that I learned the name Varian Fry and now I’ll learn about him and his network on my own.

Several things:
1. The story does not take place in Paris. It mainly takes place in Marseille.
2. The MC is described as a pilot, but there’s only one scene of her flying, and that is before the war begins. I really thought this book would be about her carrying messages for the Resistance and maybe flying the artists to safety. Nope.
3. She only delivers two messages in the entire novel. There is very little Resistance work that actually goes on. Just a lot of telling how things would be done if they had the proper documents.
4. The story really only focuses on helping one artist, Edouard Moss, and his daughter, Luki, escape. The synopsis makes it sound like there will be others, and yes, in real life I know there were, but this novel doesn’t mention them in any detail. While I very much liked and cared about what happened to Edouard and Luki, the story of their journey towards escape was just surface level for a book that was 400 pages long (it only took place in the last 60 pages of the book).
5. I didn’t understand the point of the salons and the weird games they played, like Exquisite Corpse and Truth, which were talked about, in detail, multiple times. They did not add to the story.
