This book deviates from the others in the series

I have enjoyed all of the Patricia Fisher books up until this one. If I didn't know better, I would say a different person wrote this book.
First off, the first 25-30% of the book deals with characters that have absolutely nothing to do with the series. If he wanted to introduce new people, why can't the author introduce them by weaving them into the story.... not taking the first third of a book.
Secondly, the writing is choppy and doesn't flow as well as all the others.
Third, throughout the series, Patricia has solved her mysteries by noticing clues and things that others didn't. This book keeps mentioning an itchy skull... has she turned into a psychic.
Lastly, I guess the writer needed to feel like a part of the recent Me too, social justice movement. In the book, one line says that inspector Quinn is only surrounded by male counterparts... maybe he has a sexist streak. Then never mentioned again. No part to the story at all.
OVerall, this was a disappointing book in my opinion.
