In the last book, Captain Brynn Jameson stole a Zariat ship. Then he and the expanded remote Engel force returned to Torv, where they are dismantling the enemy ship to find any weakness they can exploit to gain an advantage in battle. Meanwhile, they are under nearly constant Zariat attack, while trying to sort out the relationship between the Oksesi, who sold Trinium fuel to the Engel Fleet and the miner colony who did the actual mining. The Oksesi were actually oppressing the miners, but the miners only wanted to be left alone to conduct their affairs. Once they found out the details, the Engel Admirals put the Oksesi on notice that Engel Fleet would secure the miners’ safety if the Oksesi became dictatorial.
Corporal Nola Conroy and Golia, the Sorus Matriarch who had helped Brynn escape the Zariat prison on her planet, have determined that Zariat ships used a combination of Hemsimine and Acoline for fuel, which would take too long and too many ships to transport them from their home world. Within the Engel system, the enemy had taken over Ecriea, which had sufficient Hemsimine to conduct the war, and they once had possession of Torv, which had Acoline supplies, but Brynn and company had disrupted that. Suddenly, they realized that was the reason why the Zariat force had been reinforced dramatically – once Brynn saw the larger ships being called in, he knew that Torv was now the prime target. Can the Engel group find a different weakness in the enemy ships that can turn the tide against the augmented forces? The Miners have good defensive armament below the surface - do they have anything to help above surface to keep the fighting out in space?
This is an easy read, very entertaining, and it kept me engrossed, giving me the escape that I read space opera for. I’m thoroughly enjoying this series and am looking forward to the rest of it. I received an ARC – this review is my honest opinion. I also purchased a copy on release to support this great team.
In this last episode our fighters lead by captain Jamison ended up with a stolen Zariat Ship. Now they are trying very hard to find a weakness (like the death star in star wars). They think they have found a weakness and why the planet Torv was such a target. The fuel that is used by the Zariat is a combination of two minerals mined. One is in abundance on Torv. There are more fights and yes, of course, Jamison is once again captured and then almost killed by his own crew while on the Zariat ship! The action is only second to the BIG action that always follows. These books are so wonderfully written by these two talented authors. There are answers to the previous questions, and then there are new questions to ponder. You really have to read the whole series to find out. Great over the top action, good characters, aliens, and all kinds of action. This was a ARC copy and this is my honest review.
The Yellowjacket along with the small task force has captured a Zariat ship is studying it for a weakness. But the Zariat are not going to make it easy for them. In this episode, the space battles are nearly constant as the Engle task force attempts to break the blockade and Jameson ends up on the captured Zariate ship where he is nearly killed by his own people. The task force finds itself back on the Trinium mining planet. This is where they find the Zariat’s possible weakness. Or do they? You’ll have to read it to find out! While there are no ground battles in this episode, there is still plenty of action, as Captain Jameson, his crew, and the Engel space force are locked in constant battle with the Zariat invasion/blockade force.
Having captured a Zariat spaceship proved to be a highlight for the Engel Forces and particularly for Brynn. But probing for a weakness in the design of such a ship that can be exploited, is proving much more difficult than expected. And taking it out on a test run also is an unexpected surprise. More so as the Zariat forces suddenly seem to be drawn to Oksesi and Torv in ever increasing droves. So much so that the Engel fleet is being threatened with annihilation. With Stars Dark 6: Lost Sky it is clear that a miracle or two would be welcome. They are at a point of no return. Even midst some very amusing interludes. Enjoy
The gang is all back and fighting it out. The story begins with a bang and a laugh and just gets better as it goes. Out mighty band of rebels have a captured enemy ship and they make the most of their find. Lots of action, battles, danger, undeniable feats of brilliance and funny scenes galore. I was amused and entertained and kept busy following along. Enjoyed it just as much as the rest as plans are made. The crew of the yellowjacket have come along way from just hem to a sizable force to beat back the enemy. Secrets are revealed and discovered this time around. I received an advance copy and loved the non-stop action.
The Engels are still under siege with the Yellow Jacket running interference. More allies show up and join up with the Engels but will they ever be able to withstand the millions of ships their opposition seems to have? Nola has discovered a new weapon perhaps. All I can do is to go on to the next book to find out what happens. I love this!
Captain Brynn may have found a way to defeat the Zariat, but time is running out. Lost Sky is the continuing battle between Brynn and the Zariat and their maniacal leader Darius. Just great book and follow up to the rest of series, definitely worth the time to read.
