1.0 out of 5 starsPoor storyline
Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2021
The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. However, the storyline, in opinion, is lacking. It's almost a non-story. The Intrigue of the insects with the marble is fantastic but in the end, the message about the spider being greedy seems to me to perhaps be taking a jab at capitalism.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

The cover photo was lovely, and the description of the content engaging. Unfortunately both the content and the illustrations left a lot to be desired. The story was not particularly interesting or coherent (even for a 3 year old). In what way did the spider come to feature? How were we supposed to know he was the "bad" guy, and most important, what was the take-away message for a child? The illustrations were anachronistic: a jack? a marble? What modern three-year old even has a clue what those are?

I was eager to read this to my 3-year old, but both of us went away disappointed.

3.0 out of 5 stars beautifully illustrated but the plot is inappropriate for a picture book

This book is a joy to look at. The pictures are marvelous, detailed and interesting. I absolutely love insects as the main characters. The story's plot is greed based, with a spider being alienated from his community by his greed. In short, he eventually redeems himself and is accepted back into the community. The problem for me is that the portrayal of greed in this story is a little too abstract for a picture book. If you have a child that is seriously into bugs, they will enjoy the illustrations but I can't recommend the story.

The luminescent sphere, in the midst of the insects and foliage rendered with skill in black and white is captivating! The story is clever and engaging for any age, and the artwork is irresistible. You will love the community of insects, wearing hats, that come to investigate the fantastical sphere that fell from the sky. Wondrous book!

I chose this book because my grandson likes marbles and we both loved the book, it’s very cute and clever. He asked me to read it to him three times the first day and I enjoyed it as much as he did; it’s always a plus when the book is appealing to adults too. We were both charmed with the idea of bugs enjoying little toys dropped outside

5.0 out of 5 stars A book with anti-greed message

Finally, got my copy of "It Fell Form the Sky"! It's really fantastic. I like this one especially because it contains an anti-capitalist message. It tells a story of a child loosing his marble in the bush, and the insects were amazed at this marvelous object. But the spider claimed to own it because it fell on its web and started charging anyone who wants to see it. It made a lot of money but lost all his friends. It's not easy to put an anti-capitalist idea in a child, but the Fan Brothers have done it subtlety and beautifully.

I loved the book for its beautiful illustrations, but the story did not hold the interest of my grandchildren ages 4 and 6. They love books but were not impressed with this one.

Like the book. It's a nice bit of realism for children today who, too often, don't get uplifted by their reading matter.
