Not up to the quality of the rest of the Ma's Mick Series
Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2021
I loved the prior Mad Mick books, but this one was a real disappointment. It had lots of Conor and little to no Mad Mick. Some of the dialog was nearing the painful point. Horton is one of the best of this genre and I suppose that it was unrealistic to think every book would live up to the promise of his earlier work. Both Conor and Horton were on autopilot and even dispensed with the mad scheming that makes Mad Mick mad. I hate to say it, but I would prefer to see the series die rather than to devolve to mediocrity. Both Conor and Horton owe it to the older Mad Mick not to dilute the series.
I hope Horton, in the unlikely event he would read this, to understand that this drubbing comes from respect for Horton's writing prowess and my affection for Mad Mick, and not from malice or disdain He can do better than this.
