Nice story!

I liked the premise. My only issue was that the author didn’t do her research when she wrote near the end that Cael as an elephant shifter didn’t have a great sense of smell compared to other shifters when in fact he should have had a better sense of smell than the others since African Elephants have been determined to have the best sense of smell in the animal kingdom (they can smell water 12 miles away). I know it’s science fiction, but it’s based on Earth, the animals mentioned are Earth animals as well. It annoys me when authors don’t do their research and get the easy science stuff completely and totally wrong when a simple internet search would have fixed that issue especially when it didn’t add anything to the storyline. When you are writing about shifters based on real animals, don’t screw up the real life super attributes of those animals. Instead use those attributes to improve the story.

Abrupt Unfinished Ending

I love this author and I have loved this series and the elephants are my favorites so I really wanted to love this book, but it leaves a bunch of stuffed unresolved. I even thought when I saw the words "The End" that maybe I got a bad download and was missing pages from my book, but no, it's basically a "to be continued". I don't mind reading trilogies and series that build, but I don't like having to wait for who knows how long for another book to have to get resolution to this one. Definitely not going to be able to say for the next book that it's a stand alone that's for sure.

This series is one of my guilty pleasures. If you are looking for stories that are logical and could happen in real life — this series isn’t it. At all. But it’s fun anyway so I roll with it. Until this one, I’ve been fine with the crazysauce. In every book, there’s some conflict that threatens the H/h in some way. The conflicts are integral to the stories and typically are resolved by the end of the book. Sure enough, in this one a potential conflict popped up early on. I was happily reading along to the part where the conflict is typically resolved, then turned a page and — BAM! — The End. Whhhaaatttttt?! I kept looking to see if it was a misprint. Apparently not. It appears the story will continue into the next book when a related romance is clearly coming along which is also impacted by the conflict. The book didn’t explain that tho. That’s just my guess. In the interest of full disclosure, perhaps the author should have indicated that this is a cliffhanger at least as far as the conflict is concerned. The romance in this one could be said to wrap up but still feels hasty and unfinished. I guess in a series known for its cray-cray, I should just go with it. But I definitely felt like I completely ran (or read) off a cliff.

This book was okay but the overall issue I have with it is the way the mother was handled. I understand that the shifters live in secrecy but If this mother’s breast on the run with her daughter for twenty years from the father who exhibited some supernatural or “other “ traits to her then she should have been given the benefit of the doubt. If her daughter who is actually supernatural needed a few cues and hen she should have been at least extended that same courtesy. Keeping her in the dark could have killed her. At some point some humans are going to have to find out one way or the other. And if Novi loved her mom so much and was so grateful she wouldn’t have left her exposed like that. Otherwise this was an okay read with a mild cliffhanger.

Loved it, waited so long to read Cael story and now it's so surreal to know that a shifter would want to hurt his own born..but as Alister stated each shifter has there own way of doing things, but going so far as to hunting them down all these years just to be his Alpha second..smh shame. But lookie here Novi mom seem to have gotten the mate bug too..oh so can't wait to read her story, I just hope it's not a year from now..please let it be soon..big fan as always Winzie19🤗💞.

Unresolved Conflict and Rushed Ending

I liked the characters but I have to echo another review. The ending was abrupt, feeling rushed, and the main conflict goes unresolved. It almost felt like the author just either didn't have enough time or didn't feel like figuring out a resolution. I usually like the were zoo series, so this is an aberration for the author. My only hope is it is resolved in another book. There may have been foreshadowing with Novi's mom and Atticus, the gorilla alpha, but it could have been done better so that it didn't feel so unfinished.

I try not to read too many new authors because if I find a new author I really like..I end up trying to get all their books. Darn..caught again. Her characters were so likeable. Her story is my type of story. Its had danger, romance and mystery. I also like that most of the characters at some point have their own story. And I'm looking forward to that. This is book 11 so I have to get book 1. I can't wait.

Wow, I'm a big fan of R.E. Butler! Have this complete series of "Were Zoo". But, I have to say after just completing reading "Cael", I am disappointed. The story although good, feels like it is incomplete. 1st one in the series that is a true cliffhanger. I got to the end of the last chapter and I thought what the heck!! Where is the rest of the story.. Kind of feel cheated.

Cadl is an elephant shifter and while in the paddock during a VIP tour he finds his soul mate, Novi, who doesn't know she is only part human. What she is, and why she doesn't know is something Cael must find out before she can find out he is an elephant shifter. A really good story but I felt the ending was incomplete and there was no closure to the story.
