Mike and Ellie are newlyweds. Building a home while trying to schedule "them time" is even more important to Mike, who's a decade older than his bride. He'll just have to help her focus more on them and not her myriad activities outside work. And it doesn't help that one of his exes moved back to town. Jealousy will not be allowed.

This isn't quite what I expected when I chose this story. Definitely a spanking novel but with none of the heat I have come to expect. A good read nonetheless with relatable characters and situations. I think I'll read the rest.

I love a good spanking story, but spanking should be fun and playful, maybe with occasional good for you spankings. I found myself angry with the husband for being overbearing. I know men can often be like that, but not in my fantasies. Also, it lacked chemistry. Plus, some parts were unnecessarily repetitive. Book two was better.

FUNNY HOW LIFE WORKED OUT

The first book in the Clearwater Romance series was a fun read, with charming characters, plenty of social interaction, dreams, and aspirations. It will have two people marrying and their relationship—one that includes power exchange. None of the spankings are based on discipline, but more on keeping things on an even keel, helping guide Ellie, and aiding Mike and her in having a smooth marriage.

“Now, let’s spank the insecurity and nonsense out of you,” he said. “I won’t have my wife second-guessing that I mean what I say to her.”

Ellie Thompson-Murphy is a woman who is continuously involved in activities. If anything, she doesn’t seem to say no (except when Mike is spanking her bottom.) Running her own real estate office, volunteering for committees, and keep long hours.

“Her being gone all the time was getting old, but really, she did very good things for the town. He needed to remember that when they had their little talk about making time for each other.”

Mike Murphy has done well in his business of financial investments. He works well with his partner, Max, who goes out and drums up the business while Mike works in the office. Playing Santa during the Christmas parade had him meeting Ellie, and as they say, the rest is history.

The story will have Mike and Ellie marrying and in the process of building their dream home on three acres on the edge of town. Because they are both so busy with work, they decide to hire a designer. What a shock to learn that Miranda and Mike used to date in college, yet Ellie believes that Miranda will do an excellent job for them, and she does. The story is full of activities, events, and ambitions, like Ellie wanting to get into politics. She believes staying busy on committees and getting her name out there will help for the future. But will the past be an issue that must be considered?

While this story does have many spanking scenes, and none of them discipline, always power exchange, it is something that both Ellie and Mike have agreed upon. While he was involved more in BDSM in college, Ellie never has been, nor has their relationship included it. Now, he is content with what they have, and while she is too, it is never during a spanking.

“That was what she wanted. His strength, control and love. It made life so much better. However, she also needed his support in what she wanted to do in life, his approval of her ambitions, his willingness to keep their relationship strong and healthy while he did his thing and she did hers.”

What you will not find in this story is any details or mention of sex scenes. It is strictly the relationship of this couple and power exchange. Also, this is a series but does not end on a cliffhanger, but instead, a segue into the next book.

Light and fun power exchange

The Wife He Wanted is the first book in the A Clearwater Romance series and is a great start to this new series. The story is about Ellie Thompson and Mike Murphy who are getting married soon. They both lead very busy lives but Mike believes that Ellie's is just too busy and he is going to help guide her. This is not done with punishments but with some slight and very fun paddling. Ellie may not be too sure about this at the beginning but she quickly learns that she does love it and that it adds a whole new element to their very fun and passionate sex life. Mike likes light BDSM which he found when he was in his early twenties and is college. He initially has to take Ellie in hand but she quickly submits to him and his guidance.
This is a sweet, fun, sexy and interestingly enough quite clean story. It is much more about the dynamics of their power exchange and how that ends up influencing their soon to be married life together. The Wife He Wanted is an engaging and quick read.

Clean, New Series Start

Ellie and Mike are soon to be married and they have an interesting sex life. Mike takes the paddle to Ellie and persuades her that she likes it and deserves it. She seems to have an issue with it but at the same time goes along with it being part of their relationship. Mike tells her she needs the spankings, it is not as a form of punishment but as a power exchange between the couple. This was a consensual part of their relationship and something that Mike has done in his past relationships . Mike started going to BDSM clubs while he was in college since he was in his 20's while he was in college. While this is a form of kink, there was not steamy parts in the book. There are no sex scenes, not even a hint of sex I like books with more steam and I needed more. With that being said, it did keep my attention. I kept expecting some drama or angst and it never materialized in this book.
This is the first book in a new series starter and while there were no loose ends to tie up, it did lead into the second book with Ellie's best friend Lucy. I am going to purchase that book to get her story, but at the same time I want to catch up with Mike and Ellie as we were given some teasers at the endo of the book.

Enjoyable book about a married couple

I really enjoy books with already established or married couples and this one was entertaining. Ellie and Mike are a good couple and Mike is not afraid to take Ellie over his knee. In fact the book starts the night before their wedding with Mike providing some discipline. I thought the book started strong and held a lot of promise. I enjoyed the story overall, but I really felt like it was too simple. There were some issues or small threads throughout the book that I thought would led to more conflict in the relationship, or deserved some more exploration as the newlyweds established their relationship. I am hoping that as this series continues we might come back to Ellie and Mike. I also thought this book set up the next one well. While there were some elements I wanted to see explored more fully, overall I would recommend this book. I enjoyed it and thought it was a fun read.

Continued from Clearwater Christmas

This was a nice story; not suspenseful or anything, but romantic and good character development. The book continues the story from Clearwater Christmas, where they first meet. They are now married and Ellie is busier than ever, getting involved in the community wherever she can. We see more of her best friend Lucy, who had been.interested in Mike's business partner, Max. It looks like the next Clearwater book will be about her, and I'm looking forward to it! She seems to be an interesting character.

Ellie and Mike

I read this story, and enjoyed it, but I really think you should read Clearwater Christmas in '12 Naughty days of Christmas 2020' as it introduces Ellie and Mike. Ellie is a go-getter. She is a realtor and does a lot of volunteer work. Mike works a normal job and has evenings and weekends off. He loves Ellie and he disciplines her to set her back on the right path when she starts to get insecure and there is a lot of discipline. I enjoyed their dynamic and am looking forward to how their lives progress in the next book of the series.

I did not anticipate such a unique, funny, and delightful romance story.
It was refreshing in it's approach and creative in it's execution.I loved
the warmth that the author built into the characters. Each had their
strength that they brought to their relationship.

Many books are written about couples living in a domestic discipline
lifestyle with all of its issues, but few have been as successful in presenting
the reluctant female concerns.

Ellie’s life was one big adventure. She was crazy about Mike despite his
penchant for spanking her, and spank her he did on a regular basis.Mike
wa unapologetic in his approach to Ellie. He was dominant and loving. He
never failed to protect Ellie from herself. Despite her efforts, Ellie was
never able to talk her way out of time spent over Mike’s knees. She hated
the pain, but her tears were cathartic.

This was an excellent start to this new series by Megan McCoy.The story was
built on love and respect, and it gives the readers a first-hand experience of
how a healthy domestic discipline relationship should work.
