Wow. Fantastic introduction to Terry's new shifter series. It seems a group of shifters, several dragons, a wolf, and even a tiger, are working a cattle ranch in Texas and some of them have been there for a really long time. Harrison is the boss-man, er dragon, and he pretty much sticks to a "no humans allowed" policy. He considers them to be more trouble than they are worth. But when a pretty little human woman shows up with a talisman that says Harrison owes her a favor, he seems inclined to change his mind. Maybe. If she can prove herself useful. It is not because he finds her sexy. Nope.
Marian is down to her last hope. All she has is her old Thunderbird and a strange coin her father gave her years ago. He told her if she ever needed help to take it to Harrison at the Dragonclaw Ranch and tell him she was calling in the favor he owed. It seems her father once drug this man out of raging floodwaters and was given the object as an IOU of sorts. When Marian's car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and she finds herself surrounded by coyotes, she is rescued by a man who says he knows Harrison and he takes her to the ranch she was seeking. OMG. All the men there are huge and hunky. When someone spills the beans and she discovers her rescuer is none other than the Harrison she is looking for, she assumes he must be the son of the man her father saved. He reluctantly agrees to give her a trial period and see if she can pull her weight. So why is he so protective of her and what's with the hungry looks he keeps giving her?
I can't wait for the next books in the series. Yum.
