I am a big fan of military science fiction, and, with Judgement Day, Rick Partlow has scored again. His series of books dealing with the war with the Thani have been excellent military sci fi. In the Holy War series he describes how the war began and the efforts to not lose. The war is viewed through the experiences of a ship’s captain, a squadron commander of space fighters and Marine grunts on the ground. And he gets it right. Too many authors think they know about the military and totally miss the mark. Partlow gets it right. His characters are realistic. The action is believable. The plots are interesting. I heartily recommend the entire series of books.
Of course that air is supercharged with deadly electron blasts and lasers. So who knows. This book two has a lot going on, not the least is a couple of love interests brewing. We’ll have to wait for the next and final book to see what happens. Whatever the outcomes I’ll be sad to see this trilogy end.
Another thrilling ride with the crew of the Herculean. Travis can find more ways than you'd think possible to upset the Powers that be and he doubles down in this book. Good cast of characters that you feel you come to know as we get more background on them. Looking forward to the next book.
I think I've read everything he has done. There are alot of good authors. The difference is the great ones keep you up all night turning pages. Mr. Partlow is a great one. The military slang and humor is dead on and the fighting is realistic. Not all the heroes get to live. Waiting for the next book.
Exciting Sci-Fi reading throughout the book. Equal parts space and terra war to intrigue any reader. The author provides the reader with much technical details of the starships as well as the Marine gear. Can hardly wait to begin reading the next book!
This is a great fun series to read. It keep my attention. Lots of drama, the main character trying to do what is right, not what is politically expedient. The Marines get new toys to play with, but the basic tactics are the same. I recommend.
Ioveing these "before" story line's ! The back ground on how the war started & how the equipment started out is nice to know.Keep on keeping on marine! I'm right behind you going on to the next volume!!
Lots of excitement, more character development, and Travis Miller guess right again (a bit of plot warning). Unfortunately, although the writing is mostly good, VERY sloppy. Inconsistent descriptions, jarring to the flow, and pretty poor editing. Still, a good yarn with good plotting that boosts my rating a star.
