Gigi's Reads
5.0 out of 5 starsSci-fi, fated mates, and a new “world” to experience
Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2021
Drawn in from the very first sentence, I saw myself and all of the strong women I know in Leia. When these aliens think earth women will be subservient and obedient they have another thing coming. Var is one scary MF but he proves to Leia that not all of the Tolath are like the original aliens that invaded Earth, who sent omegas into hiding afraid for their lives.

This new “world” is set up in glimpses. First the village where Leia is found by Var. Var and his air bike. The Citadel where The Lord Overseer Tane and Var live. And because we’re not force fed the facts of the changes that have taken place the story flows well. I call it the “movie effect”, I can see the action in my mind. Oh, and there are just enough sexy times to spice up the tale. I won’t call it romance exactly because it is more like instinct taking over.

This is a great start to a new series, sexy sci-fi at it’s best. Can’t wait for Rath!

RB
2.0 out of 5 starsShort, with little development for a new series
Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2021
As a big big Mina Carter and Susan Hayes fan, this is particularly disappointing for a new series.

The H--virtually one note. Mostly he shouts MINE alot, and threatens to "punish" the h. Oh, and by punish, he means spanking in case you need clarity. He's quite the hunk o burnin' love, but otherwise, we learn little about him. He speaks intelligently and fluidly to others, but shares little besides declarative statements and threats with the h.

The h--she's a bit older, thankfully. No virgins! But I can see them coming, for sure, along with some secret babies. She does perform some TSTL acts, which are not endearing.

The plot--pretty spare. Because this book is so short, there's little world building, and not much character development of the different players. There's mostly sex. However, there's such an insta-love vibe that there's virtually no real connection between the H and the h.

Both authors are really accomplished, and have written terrific stories and series. It's unclear where this is going, and doesn't entice this reader to the next story. Read the first volume of Mina Carter's Lathar series to see how a new series is supposed to kick off.

2.0 out of 5 stars Alpha to Omega: You're Mine! Mine! Mine!

I like Mina Carter's work, usually. The issue, for me, was no real character development so no real connection between H and h. Insta sex scenes with constant threats of 'i will punish you' if you don't obey and of course there was the 'i must punish you now' spanking. Oh yes, and lets not forget more of 'Mine'! This book was borderline juvenile writing in places. It's a pity that the authors didn't focus more on the story line, the premise of which was quite ok but to many intimate moments with not enough connection detracted from it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nearly abandoned this one

This is definitely not what I've come to expect of Mina Carter. It's truly disappointing. A female lead, who, while standing up for herself within her limits, comes across as bland and a bit weak. The male lead doesn't seem to have anything going for him beyond not being quite as violent as others of his species. The plot leads us into a second book into the series, but honestly doesn't have the spice to carry my interest into reading it.

This book was nearly a DNF, but given my love of Mina Carter's work, I felt I owed it my full effort to finish. I did, though I've chosen to not go farther with the series.
Definitely consider both authors' other work, as, in my experience, it's vastly superior.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating new story but found lacking

Alien invasion gone wrong. I liked the premise of the story but there wasn't enough substance (just lots of sex) and so many questions at the end. I am surprised by this as I usually like Mina Carter's books.

Too short!!! Not worth paying for. Moved too quickly. Not enough background. This needs more story to it. Was there a series before this one???

When the first book showed 101 pages I expected the next book to be much longer but book two is shorter! It was like a rough draft that has just started to be fleshed out. So disappointing!

Aphrodite
2.0 out of 5 stars Fell short
Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2022
This will be a combo review of all 4 books in the series so spoilers ahead. Mina Carter and Susan Hayes are both well known authors in the sci-fi genre and their books have generally been good but the Omega Collective fell rather short. The stories were much too short and there was very little world building so many things didn't really add up like how the omega rebels managed to still get weapons and the use of the blockers that were made by who and where? They were too busy running and hiding to set up any labs to create anything never mind blockers.

Also ,if the H'thor clan is now in charge why are there still brutal L’crav alphas roaming the citadel since they know they are a a threat and dishonourable so again that didn't make sense.

The alpha heroes are mainly the same, roaring MINE MINE MINE but Var is by far the worst of them. He treats Leia like a child and threatens punishment (spankings) for stupid things.

This series would be so much better if it were longer with much more character and world building and the stories more fleshed out.

Wasn't sure about a book set in a omegaverse as I have tried to read them in the past by other author's and found the genre a bit of a turnoff.
However I like Mina Carter and wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt.
I think for me as I've read a lot of sci fi romance I just need a bit more sci fi in the mix.
I found the female character completely infantalised the story unimaginative
A bit of a lowering of the bar instead of taking risks and upping the game.
