Interesting premise, hard to follow

I enjoyed the first book in this series quite a bit. The premise was quite interesting and I liked the characters. However, after reading the third book yesterday, and skimming 30% of it, I can firmly say the writing style is not for me. Highly repetitive language, a large number of tangents constantly that disrupt the story, and fundamentally abandoning or paying little attention to the things that are interesting such as the MC's psionics make the story difficult to enjoy. Further, this last book had such a limited scope of story that it was a pretty large let down for me. The book covers one attack to kill the dragon... there's a little story telling about delivering an IED to a medusa, and a lot of "telling" about everything else. Also, in the end within a few moments, the romance aspect of the story is abruptly tossed away with little fanfare or background. Essentially, "accidentally found a guy we apparently thought was already dead but have never heard of until now, and he's her old BFF, so she's with him now, k, thanks bia."
Great premise, but very challenging story telling for me.
