I thought I already gave a review on 54 Sleepless Nights, but guess not. I read this a while ago and I enjoyed the book overall. Some stories better than others - depends on how brave you are, I suppose! To be honest, anything that comes in my mail with Tobias in the subject line gets my attention. I’ve never been let down with a half-baked story or insanely crazy story and you can sometimes get that in other anthologies. Tip: If you see this author’s name in the subject line of your whatever, open it. This guy has stories that will definitely keep you interested!
Tobias Wade has a rare talent for twisting the mundanity of everyday life into a sublime horrifying experience. I fell in love with the first book of the series and this addition is not a disappointment in any way. I wanted to stretch the stories out, 1 or 2 a night for a month or so—I ended up finishing 3 days after starting. The endings of the short stories are rarely what you are expecting usually delivering a thought-provoking style of horror.
This is the third "Nights" book that I have read. I have been reading horror/mystery books all my life and I think that Mr. Wade has some of the most original stories that I've ever read! Read this book, you will love it!
This is a hard book to put down and a harder one to get out of your thoughts. 50+ short (5-10 min) reads that distort the ordinary into nightmares. Innocuous phrases such as "I love you, I'll do anything for you" "It looks so life-like" "It's as if the house grew here" take on on a sinister bent in these all too plausible stories that creep into your subconscious and won't let go. Truly a wide variety of tales including a few disquieting yet wholesome endings. While there are stories that dip into the paranormal and macabre, most simply lead down disquieting uncomfortable paths - making you second guess all the slightly odd, and some of the normal things around you. Twists on twists to keep you guessing and just enough left unsaid that you will lie awake at night for hours thinking about what it means if that is true. This is an honest and voluntary review of an ARC.
This is a great mix for anyone who likes to read horror anthologies. There is a wide variety of topics covered. I have always enjoyed Tobias Wade's anthology books. They keep you reading too late at night, and there are always some stories that stick out more than others that you will remember a long time.
I laughed. I cried. I got angry. I laughed and cried again. Some of these story’s were so well written that I would love to read a full length novel. Although some were markedly better than others, not one was a disappointment. Wonderful read for everyone!
