Very well edited for the modern world!!! Chapters are brief, very well written with incredible clarity, relevance without sacrificing depth, some thing rare in todays books, but of course DK knows how to pull it off. Highly recommend to any parent, homeschooler, of just any adult interested in science. Biological sciences have advanced so much since most adults graduated from school or college that it is very relevant to everyone and concise enough for our busy lives and again without sacrificing deapth!

I loved this very well put together (DK books are always attractive) book, The Biology Book. It's a very good, up-to-date, overview of biology written by a team of ten authors. It's written in a very easy to understand manner and is separated into very digestible bits. Themes range from food and energy (metabolism), to the brain and behavior, to genetics, to ecology and evolution. It's simply a great read and I look forward to reading more in the Big Ideas Made Simple series.

I requested this book to have something to read with my 11 year old son. It’s my mission in life to raise a well-informed human being and The Biology Book will help with just that. There are tons of questions asked and answered throughout; All are important and necessary to have some sort of grasp on.

Excellent book, I have been leafing through it and have found it fascinating. Not only does it go through the fundamentals of the subject, it explains the history, discovery and the mechanisms involved within each area of study. I purchased this for my son, who is a bit of a budding physics boffin, and thought it would broaden his knowledge base. However, I should add he's only 8, and this book covers how the reproductive process came to be scientifically understood and I've decided to put the book onto the top shelf for a couple years. Silly me Doh! Of course, it's a biology book! Age range, maybe 11 up and probable useful for GCSE levels or interested adults, as it is a really good, well illustrated reference book too. I

The book.
This is a hard back copy of the Dorling and Kindersley Biology book.

Concept.
This series of books takes a major topic in the biological disciplines and explains it along with information about the key scientists involved. Each topic is covered across two pages with photos, diagrams and illustrations. They have managed to pack a lot of facts in.

Layout.
The layout is typically DK with excellently written text, relevant phots and data. They use the same format across this range of books, I have the Ecology, Math’s and classical music ones as well. I have been working through each one with my nephews and nieces and it has been a wonderful journey.

Overall.
An excellent series of books with carefully selected and relevant subject matter that is explained and presented extremely well. Highly recommended.

I think that this is one of the coolest books I've read in a while. My boy loved it but equally, I did too - its full of lots of fun facts that will keep you entertained (especially if you like biology).

Great imagery in the book too - and all in all, good value for money.

Love this range of books, I have the Physics and Biology. They can be read from start to finish to give a good understanding with lots of facts and dates or as an book that you dip into and out of to gather information. Most people would say they are a great aid for teenagers who are studying, however I read them as books to learn information I never knew and I am 62
