For that special teacher in your life

I purchased this book (the first in the author's Teaching Today series) for my cousin who is a first-grade teacher in one of the poorer neighborhoods in Seattle. As she (my cousin) grapples with teaching first-graders via Zoom/remotely in a post-covid environment (saying things like "They get up to go to the bathroom and they just don't come back! I don't know what to do...), I thought I might be able to offer her some new thought or idea with this book, and so I bought it... Because teaching is tough, teaching first-graders is doubly tough, and teaching them via Zoom... I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
Well, along comes this book, which is pretty timely. I started reading it just to make sure it was good and pretty soon, I was immersed. I love how the author breaks down all of the different types of learners before delving into how to target pupils by type. Because when I was in school, there were only three types... which never seemed exactly right. From there, the author does a masterful job of providing step-by-step instructions for those who seek--not to manage kids--but to lead and inspire them.
Having now read the entire book myself, I am hugely excited to give this to my cousin, and I recommend highly for any teacher who is feeling a little stifled by the current environment of teaching, or who just needs a little inspiration. The tone is educational, but the ideas are concrete and good, and the spirit of the book is uplifting. And who couldn't use a little lift right now.
