When two eruptions of the stuff of stars flew from the surface of the sun, they rapidly barreled their way to Earth. Unseen since there Carrington Event in the mid 1800s, the power of this perfect storm blazed through Earth's magnetic shield and blew apart every transformer in North America and Western Europe. Any item powered by electronic circuitry was instantly disabled. Even backup generators were powerless to provide the electricity no longer available. Very few were prepared for this catastrophe and had little food on hand or stored. No one is prepared for the quick loss of all humanity along with the power.
As usual, the author has done his homework on the science involved, the locations and backgrounds thoroughly researched, the characters lovingly formed like clay in a master's hands. The storyline revolves around one families attempts to reunite, but the real story is the loss of humanity and the basic depravity of unrestrained mankind. This series is a warning to prepare for the unexpected and to be aware that most people cannot be trusted when your life is on the line. That the story is so compelling is the artistry of a master storyteller. This is a great read!
