What an incredible surprise!

Five stars is about half of what this book deserves. In a time when there are so many books, so many stories, this one stands high above the rest. The author captures the voice of Ishi and every experience the elephant has is transmitted beautifully to the reader. The life experiences of his ‘two legger’ friends complete the tale and make it even more meaningful. As happy endings go, this story doesn’t have many. On the other hand, the endings are meaningful, timely and interesting.
This is without a doubt the best book I have ever read from the Kindle unlimited offerings. If it had cost , I would gladly have paid. What a wonderfully fresh approach aided by beautiful descriptions and technically and grammatically correct writing. Kudos to Alex Lasker and his editors.

i really enjoyed the first two-thirds of this story. Although there are many painful points, the character development of the main character is well done. However the journey back to his roots at the end of his life is completely overdone and emotionally manipulative. I'm sure I rolled my eyes when he was crashing into boulders in the river rapids with his infected shoulder wound, as his old keeper yelled good cheer from a boat. it just went on interminably by that time and i couldn't wait for it to be over.
