To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.
First, the writing itself is very good, which is important to me. The author knows how to write correctly; good grammar; good syntax; good spelling. Those are the sort of errors which are like potholes in the road. I didn't stop once due to any of these. The story is interesting. I guess it is a coming of age type thing, for magical with familiars. Basically it's A high school, with cliques and the obligatory rich witch. I really enjoyed it, despite being over 60.
I've read the first and second isntallments in this series. If you're hoping for a really impactful, dramatic conflict scene that furthers the plot towards the end of the books then you will be deeply disappointed with this series. The big scenes that a hero or heroine get into before they discover something more about themselves or their magic were very understated and a bit underwhelming. If you're looking for more of a magical academy slice of life for the underdogs, you might enjoy the series more than I did.
I really enjoyed following Aliyah as she leaves her friends to navigate the magical world of Hawthorn Academy. With such vibrant characters and wonderful imagery I felt fully immersed in this story. Highly recommend you check this out!
