There's so many things happening at once, the demon killing humans, the exsoloup killing werewolves who can only be killed by a demon, a boy is kidnapped and a dead ghost who was part of the kidnapping is seeking redemption by showing Kait where he is, a girl is kidnapped and being held in a basement which they find out by her "human" roommates psychic ability, while also looking into an abusive boyfriend of the demon summing 20 year old girl, and helping an emaciated dog, also while avoiding her ex alpha (not very well) and figuring out the detectives wife was suicidal, an apparent love interest between her and the alpha and apparently her and the detective (who's married but doesn't interact with the wife)
Kait was suppose to be this badass but she kind of wasn't. She had instances of bravery yes. She was just a little too eager to be part of the pack, calling Jared Alpha when he knew she and her mom were packless for 12 years. He only welcomed them since she was helping with the monster attacking his wolves.. Her wolf has alot of anger because of the pain of not being able to shift so she was said to be a bit crazy, which we did kind of see but it wasn't enough for me.
I think the author was trying to do too much. However the book kept me interested, I might try the second book just to see what happens with the detective, his wife and Kait.
