The material? Yes. The fit? Yes. The waistline material? No. Look, if you have washboard abs this item might work for you, but I don't. I'm not sure whatever is reinforcing the waistline will make it five washes, but it rolls up without the slightest provocation. I'm not obese by any stretch, but these things stand no chance to lay flat against this body. As a result you are always trying to straighten and press them flat after a bathroom run. Can you wear them around the house? Sure, but I'm not very bullish on them hitting the road. Even if I had a washboard stomach there isn't much gripping the waist here. I'd look elsewhere if you are expecting a sturdy waistband that will last 50-100 washes. Just my two cents.
These boxer briefs are made mostly of nylon rather than cotton, so they have a different feel than the typical cotton-knit brief. I am a female (got these for my college-age son) and they kind of remind me of the shaper shorts I sometimes wear under dresses because of the nylon material. It is smoother than cotton and not as absorbent, IMHO. Nevertheless, my son likes these boxer briefs and says the fabric does breathe, and is super comfortable and stretchy so they fit great. These also do not have a fly, so that's another way they are different from the traditional boxer briefs made by the "famous" brands you might find at a typical big box store.
So while these boxer briefs are different, it is not necessarily in a bad way. When I first opened the package I wondered if my son might not like them, but he likes them a lot! They have a very soft, smooth, stretchy fit and he says the fact that they do not have a fly is no big deal. He likes these very much and recommends them.
