What a great story the only thing missing was a epilogue. Also I didn't understand Abigail basing her paying her debt by way of Roux. I mean what a long shot. That just did not make sense, if it wasn't for Ben Abigail would have never saw Roux again. Her meeting with Ben was happenstance she had no backup plan. Anyhoo the ending was abrupt and definitely needed an epilogue. Where did they live? What will Ben do for a living, Does George come back to the Island etc.
Have you ever tried a dish for the first time and it was so good that it made you feel good and nourished? That was this book for me. Actually I did not want it to end, that meant I had to part from what felt like new friends. This was my first read by K. Alex Walker but you best believe I will be checking out more from Walker.
The way it was written was well thought out. This story keep me captivated. I was finally able and understand why she lived in the mountain. I loved how she wrote the story and explain why her parents had to be separated. This author knows how to write a captivating and page turner story.
I can’t lie, I was a little skeptical at first, but I’m very happy I gave it a chance. As with any fantasy novel, there are elements that are almost unbelievable but the author does a wonderful job of navigating and explaining the abnormalities. The story is entertaining and engaging while also obviously being fiction. A perfect escape if that’s what you’re looking for. The only reason I give this four stars instead of five is that the ending seemed rushed. With so much effort put into developing the backstory of Roux and the relationship between she and Ben, it was a little disappointing.
This was one of the best, well written, and entertaining novels I've read in awhile. Loved it from beginning to end. Ben and Roue's love story is in a way pure and innocent. Most books don't need a sequel but I would like to know what happened to our lovers.
