**WARNING! Illegal cliffhanger!** there’s a huge cliffhanger at the end of this one, so if you don’t like them, you’re going to have to wait!

Having discovered her wolfy side, manifested a gift for healing, and found herself five fated mates; Rowan now has to come to terms with all of those things.
Between the mental abandonment of her adoptive parents, and trying to get to know her mates, she has a lot going on. It doesn’t help when the shifter leaders want to investigate, and her past comes back to haunt her!

This is an ongoing series, so the book picks up where book one’s illegal cliffhanger ended, and ends on its own cliffhanger!
Rowan is trying to learn as much as she can about her new life, and trying to get close to her mates.
She doesn’t get much school time out in this book, so we see a lot less of the mean girls!
That being said, the overall plot is a good one, with some big bad elves, unknown threats, fated mates/future and all the good stuff that comes in urban fantasy/paranormal fantasy series. The characters are interesting, the world building is well done, and the pace is heart poundingly fast.
There are a couple of romance scenes which make this a definite adult romance.

It’s an enjoyable series though, one RH and PNR or UF fans will love.

The relationships are surface and superficial. The book is really repetitive. The author just has someone do or say something horrible to the MC, one or more the guys comes to her aid, she wallows in her emotional woe is me rinse and repeat again and again. I get she is hurt because of her sister/parents, bad things have happened and also because she’s hurt about Vaughn, but we were hit over and over with it to the point I promise I heard Barry from BBT in my head say somebody call the wambulance after one more hurt passage. Show us some individual emotional and mental strength now.

I also hate the book relies on them doing things that are inherently TSTL or someone withholding information that would be helpful to the MC to know. For instance, what sense does it make for her mother to withhold the identity of her father if that is the greatest danger to her? Or to withhold from her why (her particular gift is) It’s illogical. It makes no sense that Mason would widely share her rare gift with the entire pack or include his beta in a sensitive conversation with information that would make the MC a target. It makes no sense they weren’t suspicious enough to follow the police after all they know and the previous attempts to kidnap/attack her. It makes no sense that she would just trust Jaz after the life she’s lived and her previous interactions with her. It makes no sense no security has been set up when she has repeatedly been attacked or kidnapped. With all the background about how people are going to be after her, wouldn’t you think more book real estate would be invested into her exploring and training with her powers and in self defense? The author has a great idea, but the execution is shrug. I wish she would just go back and rework some things and this would probably be awesome. You decide though.

So this is an ok read. It isn’t particularly well developed nor does it bring anything new to the table. Petty mean girls who are jealous, 5 teenage boys who are inexplicably great at sex, powerfully gifted heroine who doesn’t know how great she is, blah blah blah. We’ve seen it all before. The plot isn’t well developed and the characters are so one sided. However it wasn’t awful. It’s vanilla.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring angst

Spoilers ahead. I thought all the angst would end after the first book but it seems Rowan is destined to live a miserable life based on this book. There's her bond drama, pack politics, and bullies.

She lost her sister and adoptive parents but she gained 5 attractive mates in exchange. Nice catch? Doubtful.

First, we have Vaughn, the guy who never fails to show how repulsive Rowan is. Him saying repeatedly he doesn't want the bond was getting old. It's ok because he's dealing with past trauma according his enabler brother and co-bondmate Keene.

Then we have Holden who just looks by while his mate is being bullied. As student body president of his high school, what is his stance on bullying? What use is his position if he can't even get this off her plate?

Next is Anson whose ex is harassing his mate. Woman scorned and all that. I know he has no control over Sadie's actions but what has he done to stop her other than fanning the flames of her ire (which she takes out on Rowan)?

Lucas is the only decent mate that actually helps Rowan. I have nothing against him.

On top of her boy troubles, there's the Quad who wants to snatch her for her powers. Why wouldn't they when she has Mason for an alpha who has no leadership qualities whatsoever. Coby and Jaz constantly ignore his orders. Sam, his enforcer, turned on him. Blatant insubordination is tolerated.

With people like those in Rowan's corner, who needs enemies?

Our heroine has some TSTL moments too. After all Jaz did to her, she got duped because she was given free Diet Coke? Really??? Was she never taught about taking candy from strangers? More so from conniving witches. Ugh!

Also, whatever happened to that corrupt cop who was an accomplice to her kidnapping? There was no closure to that issue. Why would they push it under a rug? Is Rowan that much of a doormat?

This book is recommended to those who don't mind reading about abusive relationships.

I can not tell you how disappointed I am. I really liked book 1 and was really looking forward to book 2 but man it was bad.
This book is really all over the place, a lot happening in a book with nothing happening. It’s really repetitive, the same exact plot points happening every three chapters. This book really suffers from middle book syndrome while also giving away everything for book three. I don’t know why everyone was freaking out about the Cliff hanger, it didn’t really feel like one, who actually doesn’t know what’s happening right now? I don’t even need to read book three to tell you how it’s going to go.
This book was much more Wattpad esk then the first book, the writing was really immature and often did that thing that weekly writers do where they end off on a weird note like, I know exactly what we are going to do tomorrow, it’s going to be epic.” And the conversation ends, the chapter ends on that note but then the next day like nothing major really happens?
Really disappointing.

3.0 out of 5 stars minor issues/questions
Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2022

Spoiler alert…

While I really want to love this book but I just can’t. There are several issues that, while minor, just keep circling in my mind.

Timelines… when she is being tested she lets it known her birthday is a week away. Then time jump a week later, nothing, several days later, nothing still, then randomly she is having her birthday. Several of those time skips happened in a way that made me confused where we were even.

Mate marks… why would the quad question if hers was legitimate? She doesn’t have any tattoos and why would she gets a star outline with only one filled at the age of 17? Are mate marks unique to each person? What does Cassidy’s look like? Why do only the women seem to get the mark? Is each individual star point a different color? Why does it seem like it is something that needs to be hidden?

Medical bag scene… Mason has everything inside it, from tweezers and some form of disinfectant to a suture kit but doesn’t have any form of pain killer? They don’t even offer her some ibuprofen to help with pain management. I get pulling the bullet out but she didn’t make any mention of her golden lake being drained and being unable to heal herself, especially since nothing important wasn’t damaged and she wasn’t bleeding out. Then not sure why she didn’t heal herself when she wakes up. They mention that her healing ability of herself seems to be accessed when she sleeps but she healed her stomach wounds while she was healing Vaughn after the attack by the lake.

Character growth… I get that Vaughn said he would try and do better but suddenly he is all happiness and cheer, never doubting himself or his actions as he interacts with the group. No hesitation with joining in. As for Rowan, why does she easily accept Jasmine’s apology? After everything done there was no reason to accept anything wi5in a few sentences. We go from “those are probably poisoned” to “hey, thanks for the soda”. With the boys, while they have their own backgrounds several have the same feeling as each other. That being Lucius, Keene, and Holden have the whole good old fashioned country boy feeling while Vaughn and Anson are the ones with the heartbreak and dark past, though in the end they become the same as the other three. There really isn’t anything that sets them apart, not even in the way they make love with her. We have no differences in their clothes styles, things they like to do as an individual, like her and her drawings, no different styles of music… nothing. They’ve become very cookie cutter as the story goes on.

Some events feel forced to make the story move. They don’t feel natural or the “issues” are wrapped up too easily or neatly. Example being her adopted parents. Even in the first book they really didn’t make an impact on the story, they were just chess pieces to help move the story along, when they could have had such a greater impactOn the story, especially since Rowan keeps aching to connect with them again. Another scene was how did Vaughn know where to find her when she got kidnapped? There wasn’t enough time for the others to catch up to her and she couldn’t mentally communicate with anyone. She had to use the kidnappers phone. What are they even using on her that blocked the mental ability, but kept her abilities accessible?

I wanted to give better stars but all I am left with is more questions than answers that most likely won’t even be addressed in the next book.

Spoilers ahead so if you haven’t finished please don’t read.

I do not like how things were handled with Holden. Maybe I’m a little sensitive to this but he really wasn’t punished for what he did to Ro in book 1. He basically cheated. No he didn’t initiate the kiss between him and Jazmine but he didn’t set up enough boundaries with her and he shouldn’t have been with her alone knowing that she wanted him. I found it very disrespectful to the main character and didn’t like that it was brushed over. Now that I’m done with the rant, I did like the story line. I like that she met the mom. But I want to see more emotional strength in Rowan. I want to see her be able to take more of a stand for herself. I want a more outward strength. But overall I would rate this book a 3/5. I just want more from the characters. Especially Vaughn. I’m hoping I will see more in book 3.

This book was everything. Mark of Stars captured my attention immediately. Spark of Fate left me with so many questions and a lot of them were answered in this book.

Family issues, growing pains amongst her mates, and coming to terms with her shifter DNA.. how much can one young woman take? Rowan is no stranger to hardship. She proves how resilient and strong she is in Mark of Stars.

I’m in love with each of her mates, even Vaughn. The way they support Rowan and come together after the terrible situation with her “father” was amazing. Mark of Stars gave us insight into why Vaughn is ultimately a recluse and it was much needed.

‼️Side note- the spice definitely kicked up a couple notches in this book. 🙌‼️

I’m so excited to see what happens next! Tessa Hale is definitely one of my new one click authors!

In this book, Rowan learns more about herself, her developing powers and sealing her bonds. We continue to get excellent character development and an exciting storyline that I didn’t want to put down!

The more Rowan grows, the more it becomes apparent that she is extremely powerful. They all try to hide this fact from the shifter council when they stop by for a visit. Strong females are revered in their society and they don’t want the council to intervene in Ro’s life or take her away. Rowan continues to have bad things happen to her, but the guys are always there for her, and she starts to seal her bonds. The steam and the relationships grow a lot more in this book and I can’t wait for the next one after that cliffhanger!

This book was decent read, it just was to predictable. I liked that she made shifters not shift til they were around other shifters it helps with explaining why Rowan didn’t know. All the main characters and their powers were all likable, though I wish Tessa Hale had spent a little time developing them more instead of something bad happening ever time they turned around. The plot though is where it falls short, it just feels like it is only skin deep and to predictable. I’m definitely going to read the next book, I think this author has the potential to do alot better, and I’m hopeful the next one will be it.
