Damn.
I really hate the way I’m feeling right now. I like the writer . I think she’s really talented but this story in my opinion was a hot mess.
Honestly,I’m not really sure to start. But first, just a reminder with me, ⚠️ there might be spoilers ⚠️
Ok, Problem #1 for me
We aren’t shown/told til over 1/2 thru the book that this book starts Before the last book starts.
That was rather confusing and really took me out of the story.
We start kinda where I expected ,meeting Olive and Soul and getting to know about them and their connection. Olive is given NO backstory or life before joining Medact. And like Almost all the other h’s in the series has an almost desperate need to be loved but only by one certain cyborg and for reasons not explained is deeply insecure about why and or how she cooks be loved. Seriously ,most of the women who love a cyborg in this seem desperately insecure and just can’t seem believe they can be loved. It’s kinda weird but the same time sadly that’s kinda the romance genre in a nut shell at times.
Any way were barely starting to make some head way with Olive and Soul and their romance when everything seems to go off the rails.
The book starts with Olive being attacked by what’s supposed to be a “newborn “ cyborg . Only he’s not acting like a “newborn”, his behavior is more advanced and less inhibited. Olive does research and finds out he wasn’t programmed to have a bond. Which as learn ( and probably should have guessed by now) was ONLY created to control the cyborgs. Why he attacked Olive is NEVER fully explained and Olive never shares what she learns with anyone.
Soul is able to finally start the initial transfer of his bond to Olive, then desc uses to get some dirt on his soon to be ex bound one ,gets caught and barely escape with his life. Turns out his evil bound one isn’t who she seems. And he isn’t the first cyborg she’s abused. Think Nightmare.
He runs . Supposedly spends the night in the woods and then helps Cherse,Wind,Faye etc. kidnap Jade for the last book.
That was such a W.T.H moment. I couldn’t finish the last book because Nightmare and Jade were a horrible couple and had less romance that the ham and cheese sandwich I just ate.
I had just excepted this was completely after Jade and Nightmare. Annoying and confusing. ( like too much of this story. Then fearing for His safety Soul just hide out for a week. Sure, sure their bonding was new and incomplete but Soul’s first priority should have been protecting Olive but he doesn’t call or communicate with her at all.she only goes to him when the supposed‘newborn” created without a bond let’s her know Soul needs her and tells her where to go. Now I’m going crazy because everyone seems to running different circles. Jade is running off with fighters and keeping secrets. Soul is doing the same and so is Olive. No one is trusting anyone and is just feels a bit chaotic and messy.
Ok. Then when she finds him in a cabin handcuffed bed ( he supposedly did it,can’t remember why) he’s desperate to have their bond completed. Well duh! Idiot should have had someone go get her and bring him to him a week ago . Idiot !
B is wanting some foreplay because yet she’s tee,in Gus how surreal everything is and can’t believe it. Yada, yada, yada.
Sorry, but this story has to much inner monologuing and her desperate insecurity got almost disgusting 🤢 old. He’s desperate to F her and she’s desperate to drag it out and just ends up just jumping on his cock and riding him to end his suffering. Not sexy. At all. For me it just felt sad and kinda lame at how insecure she was. And well disconnected after the weird turn the story had taken.
It all felt less about love and more about serving the damn bond and just survival for Soul. I believe he cared for her but it felt like spent more time together than about and his decisions didn’t always make sense.
Too little trust. Too many ppl acting on their own with not enough explained but what was said was repeated over and over and over. Kinda like me in my reviews at times. You never get the “payoffs” your hoping and or expecting. Like when Soul has broken his bond with his now ex,I was hoping he’d get to rise like a Phoenix and kick her A. He’d get to show her how strong he is now. But no.
Book ends with a surprise attack one the lil group,a solder losing his bond in order to live and him now feeling empty and bitter, plotting his revenge.
TLDR :The book was extremely messy and repetitive, left me with more questions than answers and never ever did it really feel like romance. And I just loathe stories with more inner monologue than outer dialogue.
Was excited for this but my ride ends here. I believe this writer is talented even if the work doesn’t always show it.
