5.0 out of 5 starsWard At Her Best!
Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2021
“The purpose of life is to love…”

That line sums it all up. No matter the obstacles or the timeline, the pain or the sacrifice, doing it for love is worth it.

He was a sexy Brit visiting for the summer months. He wasn’t supposed to leave with her heart. But loving Leo was never a choice…it just was. A summer fling became a soul searing love.

Felicity knew that everyone leaves. Her own life experiences taught her that. But nothing could prepare her for the devastation of losing him. She knew she would only have him for a short time, but every moment was worth it.

Fate can be cruel.

This is a story of a love that would span time and distance. It’s a love so powerful, nothing could make it wane. Their romance is full of both love and heartache. The angst was REAL! However, the author wrote about a beautiful love. It didn’t sugarcoat reality. It was bold and honest.

I enjoyed this emotional romance with it’s ups and downs. The author put us through the wringer with this one but she brought us through the other side with a happy heart. Sig was a wonderful friend and I hope he’ll get his own story.

This is Ward at her best! A definite must read and a personal favorite. Well done and beautifully written.

Ok, so I loved how this book started. I enjoyed the meet-cute and the banter that followed. I liked both the h and the H. I loved Sig. The second part is where my excitement dies off. It felt very rushed for all the emotion and drama that was packed in. Even the last chapter felt rushed and didn't give me enough. It's hard to explain, but like it was fine and there was a hea, but it wasn't satisfying.

“Make no mistake…” His eyes bore into mine. “My entire world is you, Felicity. Without you, I have nothing.”

*Swoons*

Felicity and Leo had a very interesting first encounter and after that I knew this book was going to be good read! I saw a lot of myself in Felicity when it comes to keeping people at a distance to avoid heartbreak and disappointment so I was her own personal cheerleader when she finally decided to take a chance with Leo.

There were so many layers to Leo and I loved the relationship he had with his Nan. Felicity and Leo had an instant but believable chemistry that made me heart ache when the inevitable happened. Sig was a perfect wingman who made me crack up when needed.

This book had it all and one of my favorite things is the way it made me think about some of my own life choices and I how I need to take more risks.

It’s no secret unless you been living under a rock that Penelope Ward is a favorite author of and I legit devoured this book in a few hours after saying I would take it slow. 😑🙃

Penelope delivers yet another great romance! This story had all of my favorite tropes, especially when it comes to Penelope’s books. This book follows Felicity and Leo (and don’t forget about Sig!) Felicity is going home to Rhode Island for the summer before she starts Law school and this where the handsome Brit Leo and his cousin Sig are going to be her neighbors for the summer. Felicity and Leo are polar opposites but they also share common things like heartbreak and suffering. They couldn’t be more perfect for each other and I loved every minute of their story! Watching Felicity and Leo fall for each other was both sweet and heartbreaking, especially knowing that their summer romance couldn’t last forever. Their relationship started off, knowing it shouldn’t of happened to begin with, but their connection and chemistry was undeniable.
Highly recommend if you are looking for some tears and laughs!

I've had this book since publication, and, but my TVR barely let me get to it now.

1st can we just say how gorgeous the cover model is representing Leo??!?! This book was a bit confusing for me, it took me about half the book to feel connected to Felicity and Leo. Sig (Leo's cousin) made me laugh and frustrated me too! Their chemistry builds throughout the book but it feels like there's a wall up between their emotions. Knowing from the synopsis that the book jumps forward 5 years, I kept waiting for something drastic to happen. Leo is the perfect book boyfriend, but held by obligations. Felicity is afraid need anyone, but longs for that unconditional love. Let me tell you this, all of the emotion that I was waiting for hit me at the end. And I couldn't imagine a better ending to this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars I’m not sure about this book

First I want to say that the writing in this book is fantastic, which is why I gave it four stars. The story I would give it three stars. It was funny, romantic and sad at the same time. I wasn’t thrilled how the story evolved. Yes I did like the HEA, but not happy how that came to be. I usually love everything that Penelope Ward writes, this book just left me not knowing how to write this review. The first part of the book was great, then it went into a direction I wasn’t expecting. I don’t like writing negative reviews, but it happens.

4.0 out of 5 stars A quick read without a lot of drama

I really like that Felicity was a red head with freckles everywhere and not a typical beauty that's in a everyday romance. Felicity going to law school in the fall but goes home the summer before to unwind and meets a English lord who's unwinding before he has to take on his families responsibilities. They Fall in love with knowing it can't go anywhere. Years later Felicity tries to find Leo but things don't goes as planned. I liked the epilogue. The book wasn't my favorite from this author but I bet the audio would be to fawn over with the British male.

Be warned. You will struggle to put this book down from the moment you read the first page. That was me. It was heart-wrenching, it held real struggles and real pain, true love, and it was a brilliant read.

Wendy LeGrand
4.0 out of 5 stars A heartwrenching second chance love story that packs all the emotional punches!
Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2021
Another amazing read from Penelope!! As always, she brings us a story that packs all the emotional punches, and one heck of a first meeting. Leo was charmy and swoony and every girl's fantasy! Felicity was grounded and knew exactly what she wanted to accomplish in life. Her backstory was touching and I loved how far she's come in her young life, despite how she grew up and the challenges she had faced.

Leo and Felicity had an instant attraction to each other but this story is a slow burn, until these two just can't resist anymore. And once that happens, Penelope certainly wrote some smoking hot love scenes!

I really loved two particular secondary characters, two steadfast people that wholly supported Leo and Felicity. I really was not prepared for the surprise twist that happens in the second half of the story, it really gave my heart a jolt.

This story will definitely have you feeling a plethora of emotions. I laughed, I teared up, I felt angst, worry and fear, sadness and then finally, hope again. I did struggle a bit to feel an emotional connection to the characters, but overall, Penelope once again knocks it out of the park with this story. Ladies are going to fall all over Leo with his dashing good looks and British accent. And more than a few will be chasing after that cheeky cousin of his, Sigmund!

I really hope we see Sigmund get his own story in the future, as he really was a character that I grew to love.

This was a really cute, fun read. It had enjoyable characters, a phenomenal secondary character with his own storyline, and an HEA that felt very true to the characters.

I really enjoyed how the characters were upfront and honest with each other, which made their time together fee special and real. It captured that whole summer fling feel.

One thing Penelope Ward did was made me gasp out loud. I swear to heaven, when I was listening to the audio, my hands flew to my mouth and I audibly gasped, when I got to a certain part. I know the event was coming but not in the way it did.

The falling action was a bit too short and rushed. So much of the book was spent with their beginning and falling in love, and the ending was a bit rushed with everything just falling into place.

I did love the idea of you only having one life, and so it is necessary and dire to live one you love with people you love. It resonates very well during the current state of the world.

Overall, it was a really fun read. I enjoyed the audiobook and the characters, and their journey to an HEA.

The Fairest of All Book Reviews
4.0 out of 5 stars Slow-burn, Second-Chance Romance
Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2021
Where The Aristocrat begins and the set of circumstances that the hero and heroine deal with in the onset differs greatly from where they end up, and as a romance reader, that’s exactly what I want in a story…one that may start out with intrigue and lust but then slowly turns into something more, something worth fighting for, something that may upset people or send things off-kilter in some respects but a connection that deserves to be fostered regardless of the external impact.

Both Felicity and Leo are complicated characters whose lives are defined by their pasts and whose futures seem to be already mapped out, which means that the scales aren’t tipped in their favor when they meet in her hometown and spend the summer together. But what was supposed to be a fleeting summer romance…one with an end date…one that can’t go any further because their lives are on two very different paths turns into a chaotic, life-altering experience, but it still doesn’t mean that a relationship between them will ever come to fruition because they’re up against more than just an ocean between where they actually live.

Like Penelope Ward is known for, the angst in this story is on point and the main conflict as well as its complications make emotions run high for all those experiencing it. And as the story plays out and readers are given more insight into all that’s at stake for both Felicity and Leo, hard decisions will have to be made and those choices will make or break them in all the ways that matter most.

One character who I need to give a shout out to is Sig, Leo’s cousin. He is most definitely a scene-stealer and I wouldn’t mind his story being told because spending more time with him would’t be difficult; in fact, I would be beyond entertained, I’m sure.

Emotions are high in this slow burn, second chance romance, and while it’s clear from the start that there’s a mutual attraction between Felicity and Leo, the variables working against them — time, distance, social standing — cannot be ignored and Penelope Ward does a great job depicting the highs and lows of the main characters becoming what they’ve wanted to mean to each other since their initial interaction and with Ward’s storytelling and her ability to construct a complicated plot line, her readers won’t be disappointed when they reach the final page.
