How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsThis is the only brand of sock for running I think I want to ever buy
Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2020
First I have to disclose that this is a really uneducated review. I run in sweat pants and order shoes online and when I say run it's more of a muppet jog so I don't really know what my sporting clothes options look like. I didn't even know running socks were thing till I started to get blisters and the internet told me to try running socks. But I don't get blisters now, they don't bunch up, they cover my heel where it's prone to blisters, and my feet somehow feel drier after I run. So these seem GREAT to me! But I don't know, maybe smarter runners would just think staying in place and not giving blisters in the least a sock can do. I might be overly excited based on my inexperience with proper running socks.

Also, when I was trying to find socks to buy I was reading reviews and saw that people also reviewed them for how long they can go without being washed and still not stinking. That sounds really weird cause if you run in socks you should just right away wash them, ammiright? That's always been my philosophy but, you know, I read those reviews so I had to try and it turns out, up to 4 runs before they get stinky. Maybe more but 4 is my psychological limit, I can't go longer than that. I just can't. But it really is an amazing trick in a sock, so if that matter to you, know that they really stay fresh in your show and then your closet and then your shoe again for a really long time. I tried some other brands too, that are also ok, but I find that socks in this brand just feel to me like they are less hot, and hold their shape better, than the others.

1.0 out of 5 starsThreads, Threads Everywhere...
Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2019
I'm so disappointed in these socks. I can't believe how the insides look, there are long, loose threads everywhere and a ton came out in the wash. I hate, hate, hate having loose threads inside socks which these have in abundance. There are much, much, much better socks for the price if you're looking for running/exercise specific socks. There are actually much better socks that are significantly cheaper than these. I can't speak to the odor control, as I couldn't stand to wear them for any length of time. Also, they immediately fall down inside of your shoes and you have to pull the tab up constantly. Into the trash they go, a total waste of money. Will stick with my normal Feetures and Smartwool socks from now on.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not durable
Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2017
Color: Black/CarbonSize: SmallVerified Purchase
I love the look, fit and feel of these socks. However, they developed holes near the ankles after only a few months wear. The holes were probably caused by my having to constantly pull them up at the heel as they sank lower and lower in my shoes as I walked. Not durable at all!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed. Blistered on first use.
Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2021
Color: Bright Turquoise/Neon LimeSize: LargeVerified Purchase
First time use (unwashed), developed blister in weird spot. Was super excited to upgrade from my basic Costco Pumas to this pair, which an online runners magazine gave glowing reviews to. First run (my normal twice weekly 4 miles), and noticed a blister had developed. I can't remember the last time I had one, and my well-broken-in Asics, running surface, lace tension, etc.were all the same, so it was the socks. Socks had little cushioning, and blistering may have something to do with the loose threads/rough joinery at the transition points. Socks felt slightly nylony slippery when running. Pretty disappointed. Won't spend $15 on a pair of socks again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Soft but Fragile, not worth $$$
Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2020
Color: Legion Blue/GreySize: LargeVerified Purchase
They feel amazing on, and provide all of the cushion I look for and need in a running sock... However, after only 1, short run (3miles), these socks started to degrade rapidly! Before even washing them the sleek and high tech design had been reduced to a squiggly mess, with all of the fibers fraying and puffing out. Furthermore, the big toe on both socks started rubbing a hole, (you can see the fibers puffing out in that region on both socks in picture attached). Before you jump to any conclusions about my talon situation down there, mind you I run in other socks routinely, less expensive ones at that, and do not have this problem... for further comparison, I also tried a pair of Bombas, and went 5 miles this time, and they look just as good as new, no change, even after washing. I wish those had more cushion however, so for me, still not the end all, but for anyone that isn’t cushion crazy, the Bombas won’t fall apart. Balega needs to solve this durability issue before charging a premium price. Not trying to buy disposable high end socks.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not comfortable.

I wear sneakers size 9, therefore, I purchased the recommandes size which is medium. Unfortunately, the front end of the socks are too thick and which creates pressure on the toes. That caused the the nails "bluish" and pain under the nails.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blistering socks
Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2019

I purchased two pairs of these for running. They look and feel nice. However, I’ve never had trouble with blisters until I started using these socks. I’ve now used them for about 5 mid-range runs and gotten a couple large forefoot and toe blisters. I’m not sure whether it’s a lack of breathe-ability or too much cushion (my other socks are thinner), but beware if you haven’t used them before.

2.0 out of 5 stars Really wanted to like these, but too tight

If you're looking for larger socks, these fit my size 13W feet fine for length. But, for my wide feet, the amount of compression was uncomfortable. Sent them back.

When a company sells socks for $15 a pair you expect to get excellent customer service. Balega's customer service does not exist. I wrote an email to provide feedback on a defective product and I got an auto reply that we will come back to you! They never replied back to my email.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blisters

I like the look and the feel of the fabric. I ordered a size large that corresponds to a size 11 shoe. Both times I have worn these for distance walking (once for a half marathon and once over 11K steps), I have ended up with blisters on the toes of my right foot. Very disappointed in the product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Seem great at first, but go downhill quickly
Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2019
Color: Black/CarbonSize: LargeVerified Purchase
Wore these for a few hours (just walking around the house, smooth hardwood floors, no running) and I could see the honeycomb pattern starting to unravel and fray. I’ve recently had many socks by Puma and Addidas that fell apart in months, so I saw the signs. Comfortable and great don’t mean much if they fall apart so quickly. Especially for $13 a pair, no way I’m going to deal with that. Returned these and still on a search for fantastic socks that last. So far the best have been Bombas; about 4 years but starting to get holes.

2.0 out of 5 stars awful after 1 wash for such expensive socks
Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2020
Color: GreySize: LargeVerified Purchase
Went frayed and bobbly and looked like 10-year old socks after 1 low wash with no tumble dry! See pictures! So bad. You can see the new socks next to them in the picture what they should look like and what they look like after one wash. Have requested refund. Such a shame as I ordered these from the United States to the UK after reading so many good reviews.
