Everything I have come to expect from Heather. The book was fabulous only negative I see is having to wait a few months for the next book I wish she could write them faster. This series is the best 😇 I love her work and am reading some of the books over from the beginning.

1.0 out of 5 starsEven though it was supposed to be new, it skipped badly.
Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2022
Unfortunately it is past the day to return this. I get audiobooks for my mother who is legally blind, and sometimes it takes awhile for her to get through them, as we order a bunch at one time. Full price was paid for this, yet she received a used copy that skipped badly all the way through. Total waste of $45.24(after tax). If she had known it had been used, she would have checked it right away and been able to return it on time, but since it was supposed to be new, she did not check for issues upon receiving. Very disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting idea, but we're only halfway through...

This is, evidently, the second in a series of four books about four different whack jobs representing the four horses of the apocalypse. This one features the red horse, war, and opens with twenty gang members in an isolated part of the Everglades who have been killed with arrows, axes, and knives. It gets worse from there. As plots go, I have to say this one is pretty unusual. That's refreshing. But the whole mystery won't be solved until the end of the fourth book, when, hopefully, the person responsible for the whole apocalypse idea is revealed. The best you're going to get is the identity of the main main baddies, which may or may not surprise you. I was not surprised. But Graham can write an absorbing thriller, and I will read the next two to find out who the puppet-master is.

This was a good story although I like some of her other books better as others sometimes seem like more of a mystery with a slight scare to them. Still a great book with a little romance as usual. I like all of her books overall.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Addition to the Series
Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2022
CRIMSON SUMMER (Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI Book #2) by Heather Graham is the second book in this romantic suspense/crime thriller series with an overall series arc of a mysterious apocalyptic cult with each book featuring one of the four horsemen from Revelations. This book can be read as a standalone, but it is easier to follow the overall arc by reading them in order.

FDLE Special Agent Amy Larson and FBI Special Agent Hunter Forrest are on vacation when they receive a small red toy horse figurine delivered to their room. They return to Florida immediately to a massacre in the Florida Everglades.

As the investigation gets going, a second massacre occurs in New York City. The red horse is “War” and with tensions rising, law enforcement is afraid of retaliations. A mystery puppet master is killing every witness and lead Amy and Hunter uncover. With the stakes increasing nationwide, Amy and Hunter are in a race to uncover a trail that does not lead to a dead-end but will lead them to the red horse mastermind.

I was so happy to finally get the follow-up to Danger In Numbers and the next book in this series. This is a solid next step the overall arc and a good crime thriller in its own right. Amy and Hunter are a wonderful couple to follow as the main characters. Even with the brutality of the crimes and the danger along the way, Ms. Graham is able to give Amy and Hunter lighter moments, too. This is a pair of law enforcement officers I look forward to reading more about. All the secondary characters were interesting, and the plot twists make this a story I could not put down.

I recommend this series and author and I am anxiously awaiting the next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Turf war
Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2022
I've been waiting for this second Amy Larson & Hunter Forrest FBI book since I finished book one, and this one is just as gritty and gripping. There is a series arc that I feel necessitates reading the books in order. If you read the first book, then you have an idea of what to expect as far as the crime scenes go. The blurb mentions a drug cartel, and Heather Graham doesn't beat around the bush in her descriptions of the bloody mess a turf war can be. This series is definitely not for the squeamish. Thankfully, we do get some lighter moments to balance it out. I am always on the lookout for a new crime thriller series, and I'm really liking Amy and Hunter. Like the first book, Crimson Summer kept me on my toes, and once again, Graham has given me a hard-to-put-down novel that I won't soon forget. In fact, I'll be anxiously awaiting the next investigation for these characters.

Special Agent Amy Larson and FBI agent Hunter Forrest has to cut their honeymoon short when they find another lead to the case they ware working on that appears to be leading towards starting a war. The body count rises as they get closer to figuring out who are the leaders of these turf war are.

So much to enjoy about this book. I loved the suspense of wondering who was behind this. It was interesting seeing what these people were dealing with with each tense situation they found themselves in. These gang members were just leading a change and I was hopeful they that soon they would find how was behind this and overall this book was just a great mystery suspense novel. Highly recommend you mystery lovers to check out this book but be sure to check out the previous to really see what these two have been going through while working on this case.

4.0 out of 5 stars A thriller you will want to devour
Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2022
Heather Graham has been at the top of her game for decades and after racing through her latest thriller, Crimson Summer, it’s not hard to see why. Fast-paced, brilliantly plotted and full of twists and turns readers won’t see coming, Crimson Summer is the latest surefire bestseller from this much-loved reader favorite.

When FLDE special agent Amy Larson finds a small horse figurine amid the bloody wreckage of a gang massacre in the Everglades, shivers of apprehension and trepidation begin to race up and down her spine. What other dismiss as a toy is actually the calling card of the apocalypse cult Amy and her partner, FBI Special Agent Hunter Forrest, have been investigating. Amy and Hunter know that this was not an isolated bloody incident, but the beginning of a grim and gory war the cult is determined to win at all costs – unless the two agents can stop them in time.

As tensions between rival gangs escalate to an alarming crescendo, the body count also begins to rise at a terrifying rate. Amy and Hunter’s investigation leads them to a violent far right extremist group who are not exactly falling over themselves to put a stop to this war. With enemies round every corner and danger and jeopardy dogging their every step, Amy and Hunter have got quite a challenge on their hands. With a puppet master intent on throwing a spanner in the works at every turn, Amy and Hunter will be tested like never before. Who is this puppet master? Can the agents stop this dangerous adversary in time?

This cartel turf war will continue to claim more bodies and ruin more lives. Will the Everglades ever be safe again? Or will Amy and Hunter end up as casualties in this ruthless battle for supremacy?

Heather Graham knows how to pen action-packed chillers that keep readers turning the pages late into the night and in Crimson Summer, she has written a dark, tense and shocking thriller that is absolutely impossible to put down.

Amy and Hunter are a fantastic double-act. They are brave, intelligent and fearless and they will certainly keep readers entertained as they find themselves solving what could well be one of the most challenging cases of their career.

An addictive thriller I couldn’t stop myself from devouring, Crimson Summer is the latest triumph for master storyteller Heather Graham.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compelling read

What does the red horse signify in the Bible? For a clue, look closer at the title, Crimson Summer. Crimson is another word for red. Red is the color of blood. The rider of the red horse signifies warfare in the Bible. Is that so in this enthralling book by Heather Graham? In fact, all four horsemen of the apocalypse - red, white, black and pale - are all mentioned more than once in this thrilling mystery by Heather Graham.

Readers are back with FDLE Special Agents Amy Larson and Hunter Forrest as they desperately look for someone only known as the puppetmaster - someone very interested in perpetuating a brutal gang war. From Florida to New York, the body count is rising at a rapid pace. As Amy and Hunter seek out clues, they find that they are thwarted at every turn. Will they be able to stop this puppetmaster before even more bodies fall?

This is the second book in an exciting series. The first book, Danger in Numbers, was an excellent crime thriller that introduced Amy and Hunter. They work well together both personally and professionally. I am more than eager to continue to the next book in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting story
Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2022
I enjoy the ongoing theme - The Four Horsemen. It's a very interesting story line. I enjoy the characters, the settings, the interagency dynamics. What I am not crazy about is the simplistic, somewhat forced dialogue between some of the characters - especially Amy and Hunter. It makes certain sections feel drawn out, with unnecessary words that don't really bring anything extra to the story.

Other than that, I can't wait to see what happens next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kept Me Guessing
Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2022
This latest thriller by Heather Graham kept me guessing all the way to the end. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I really enjoyed it. While it is the second book in a series, it can easily be read as a standalone. (I have not read the first one.)

The chemistry between Hunter and Amy and the banter among the law enforcement characters is a good balance with the darker scenes of gang wars and murders. Suspense with perfectly paced twists and turns made this a book I had difficulty putting down.

I would have given the book five stars if the dialogue, a bit clumsy at times, had been smoother.
