2 people who have sworn off love take a chance on putting their heart on the line

I have been waiting for Riggs story since we first met him, and I am excited that we finally get the history of the team loner!
Riggs hasn't always been so closed off, but after becoming guardian to his younger step-sister, he felt as though he needed to distance himself from everyone in order to protect her privacy. He is struggling a bit in the parent role particularly with a soon to be 18 year old teenager experiencing her own issues trying to connect and make friends in a completely new environment. The woman Riggs chooses to be a sort of nanny for Janelle is less than ideal, so when she suddenly is not available to keep an eye on his sister while he is away at games, Riggs is forced to find another alternative.
From the moment he and Veronica meet, they clash often and hard. But under that disdain lies a simmering attraction and a lot of misunderstanding on both sides. Enemies quickly become something more, but when Veronica steps in to help with Janelle, things get complicated quickly. The two people who have sworn off love and marriage find themselves questioning their convictions as they get to know each other, and when a sudden tragedy brings home the realization that life is too short, they both have to decide if risking their heart is the right next step.
This story had plenty of turmoil, sizzling moments and some heartbreaking ones too. I loved the evolution of Riggs and Veronica's relationship, and I am still a bit stunned over events toward the end of the book. I am waiting anxiously to see what comes next, but this was a great read and addition to the Vengeance series!
