An Enjoyable Tale

I really enjoyed the series. I will say that the layout was a little different. The first two books read like a single story that was nicely wrpped up at the end. When I started the third book, I felt like it was just tacked onto a two book series, before becoming very integrated into the original plot. It really did put a better finish overall. Great series.

The beginning is good enough to pull the reader in, providing the reader can tolerate the low grammatical standards for the narrative. As the story continues though, it becomes less believable as new characters and plot are brought into the storyline. The second book in the series was less than the first and slowly unraveled any interest I held in the characters or story. Eventually there were simply too many unconnected story threads, unresolved issues, and no clear direction stated or even implied. About halfway through the second book I realized I no longer cared and returned the boxed set.

I read the complete trilogy, so this is a comprehensive review. I do not give spoilers in my reviews. Note that I enjoy a good science fiction read. However, these books were more on the level of being written for young adults, vice a seriously mature audience. Heroes ultra-good? Check. Full of cliches? Check. Simplistic and predictable situations? Check. Although I'm perhaps being a bit harsh here, the author did throw in some unpredictable plot twists and changes, and his writing was easily understandable. While I found myself drawn more into the story the longer that I read, this is only an adequate story in my opinion. It's OK ... three stars.

I had read the first two books and enjoyed them so was pleased with ‘finale’. And it was good, but at the end there was a flurry of typos and even a wrong name. Still it had to be complicated to try to wrap all of it up. A few loose ends and I thot the royal marriage was phony given what we know of Sen … and what happened to the ice guy? Anyway I’ll gladly read the author again.

This trilogy should be marketed to a young audience. The writing is juvenile, with many misused words and poor grammar. Characters are less than fully fleshed out and behave inconsistently. The plot is too drawn out for much of the story, and then concludes rather abruptly. The “science” is barely explored or explained. All in all, a mostly unsatisfying read.
