How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

So listen, a lot of y’all seem to have a lot to say on this here platform which leaves me wondering if you keep that same energy for non-Black content.

I mean we beg and beg for representation, for a seat at the table - but then we tear the table down before the meal even begins. My goodness. Every thing isn’t for everyone. If you didn’t like the show, cool. Watch something else. But what is this desire to tear down Black art. Because that’s what this is - art - and last I checked non-Black folks get to showcase and regurgitate their art on television and in cinema without the masses pulling out their pitchforks, because it wasn’t up to their so-called standards, because it reminds them of XYZ, because it doesn’t check every single arbitrary box, because it isn’t Oscar-worthy.

Some things just… are. It’s entertainment. We endure in REAL LIFE enough. We’ve finally entered an era where Black content doesn’t automatically include Black trauma/struggle. That . is . a . win.

Also, Black professional women (and men) with degrees, and good jobs, and multiple letters behind and in front of their names are allowed to be ratchet too, also, as well. If your friends group can’t talk, laugh, and enjoy all the things without a filter, are you really even friends.

Also, Meagan Good is an A-C-T-R-E-S-S. That is her whole profession. Playing fictional characters. She’s been doing that since she was a child and way before she got married to some man. So in what world does a woman decide to not perform the duties of her job/career/profession/passion because of what her husband does or doesn’t do for a living. It’s really time for some of y’all to leave that “first lady” trope at the altar. Please. Thank you. And Amen.

Also, gay people exist. Black gay people exist. And they deserve representation too. The end.

Also, the litter police LOL really LOL that’s where you draw the line LOL just say you hate the show and go LOL

And lastly, and I say this (somewhat) respectfully, to the non-Black people that have jumped on this here platform with commentary on Black life, Black womanhood, Black TV/cinema, and all things Black in general - don’t.

I had high hopes and I looked forward in watching the series 'Harlem'. I am so disappointed by the content in this series.

These are supposed to be 4 college educated professioinal black woman. However, the character Angie is acting like a hood rat. I don't like the lesbian character either because how many straight black females you know that hangs out constantly with a lesbian or vice versa? Black lesbians like to associate with other lesbians and not with heterosexaul women.

Some white people complained about segregation and only black characters in this series. Duh, we still live in a segregated society in the United States. I don't have any white friends nor do I hang out with white people in life. Even at work and in high school, the blacks hang out together and the whites do the same. I attended an HBCU school (Morgan State University) where Blacks were the majority on campus.

I was looking forward in seeing a series about 4 black professional women focusing on everyday life that we as black people deal with in our community and in society. Force diversity now on television and in the movies is not realistic in the real world.

It’s so funny that we can watch shows just like this with a white cast and love it but as soon as it’s Black people, other Black people (particularly women) are over critical and super defensive.. Yes leaving the purse was over the top but it’s ENTERTAINMENT!! I loved the humor because I literally laughed. A lot. Too bad in 2021 people can no longer get a joke and want everything to be “realistic” and serious. Sheesh! I mean we all know that these types of women don’t really exist. Right?… WRONG!

I saw the low reviews and thought, let me give this a chance and decide for myself. Well, less than five minutes in, I could understand why. But I continued to watch, hoping, the distasteful script & cheesy acting would take a turn for the better. Nope!!! Painstakingly made it thru episode 1; couldn't get past episode 2. This is one of the worst things I've seen in a while. Very disappointing! But judge for yourself. Uugghh!

1.0 out of 5 stars I wanted to love this show.

This was Sex in the City with Black women. The women were all immature, neurotic, and out of touch with reality. I find that sort of woman/child, can't cope with adult situations dysfunctional banter to be annoying. In the first two or three episodes, one young lady goes to Long Island to meet a man she met on a dating app and she LEAVES HER PURSE WITH HIM while she goes to the bathroom. I'm supposed to believe that a college professor, a woman with a PhD., can't deal with seeing her ex and she has to act like she's 12 years old in the process. The singer, who is a true artist and creative, she is someone I wanted to relate to, she seems oblivious to the fact that she can't be a leech on her friends without repercussions. The lesbian went through extraordinary lengths to not be broken up with from a woman she wanted to break up with. The Titanic engagement party . . . I don't even have words for that. I'm a bit older than these characters and I know that TV influences collective group behavior but I pray there aren't 30 something Black women out there being this stupid in real life. None of the women are women I would want to be friends with, none of them were really Black.

I think they took episodes and scenes that didn't make the cut for Sex and the City and just put Black actresses in the place of the white women.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is definitely the East Coat version of what I missed in Insecure
Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2021
I am NOT comparing the two - OK I am LOL because they sort of remind me of each other. Women trying to figure it all out while living and loving. I am always surprised at Amazon reviews - like it is so obvious that this show is not for certain people so WHY DO THEY INSIST ON REVIEWING IT MUCH LESS EVEN WATCHING IT. This is for a particular audience and you know you are either that audience OR not within the first five minutes. At that point, leave the room and let the rest of us enjoy the party! Is this show perfect - nope it has some weak points (people can point to a certain "colorism" among the friends. But this is a romping good time and I love it. The sound track is amazing and it is exactly the type of easy watching comedy/drama I need to get me mind away from some not so great things happening in the world. If we can tolerate how many seasons of Seinfeld and Friends - why can't we have these also nice things like Insecure and Harlem without people who were not invited to the party constantly coming into the room to complain about the loud music and how much fun we are having. Geez, let us live! I want to also add that the show slightly reminds me of Living Single but the male perspective is not as present as it was in Living Single - miss that show so much!!!!! But Harlem is filling a bit of that hole in my heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ignore the Hateful Bad Reviews
Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2021
First, for all those that complain about Angie, these are people who probably have never interacted with black women on a regular. Angie is not ratchet, she's sexually free, uninhibited, fearless just like Samantha in SATC.

Also, lesbian women do hang with straight women. That was a horrible and stupid comment to make.

This show epitomizes every aspect of black women, from the fair to the heavy melanin; it is fun and silly, a great watch and true to the culture. It is vulgar but in the best way, the writer was definitely in his element.

The bad reviewers of this show has never stepped foot on the black side of town and you can tell. Cant wait for season 2!!

Good taste
2.0 out of 5 stars cheap hollywood rubbish packed full of stereotypes
Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2021
I wanted to love it. I missed Sex and the City, and relished in the idea of another series with four women leads.
The beginning part discussing some tribe in Asia called the Masuo, was trite and ridiculous.
To say it is a letdown is an understatement.
Cliche, shallow, stereotypes abound, and terrible writing.
Episode 1, minute 15:35 is a great example of this. It's another example of hollywood and big corporations demonstrating the continued perpetuation of divisiveness, as well as promoting segregation, like it's a good thing.
The lesbian character is kind of funny, and the character, Quinn, is well acted. Otherwise, nothing else seemed remarkable.
I agree with reviewer SB, the littering scene was gross.
The only time I laughed was when Whoopi Goldberg's character was giving the lead character a talking to.
The beginning of most of the episodes are BS academic sounding lectures of anthropology mixed with critical race theory; and just BS AF.
Despite all of this, I cannot stop watching the train wreck, as some of it is entertaining. I am human!
The end is so stupid, and an insult to strong black women everywhere. No self respecting woman goes chasing after a man like this. Definitely NOT feminism, if that's what they were going for.

HALL OF FAMETOP 10 REVIEWERVINE VOICE
4.0 out of 5 stars A group of 30 something friends trying to
Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2021
figure out life in HARLEM.

There are 4 young, black women that anchor this series Altho’ the cast is much larger. One is an associate professor at Columbia, another a budding designer, a singer in need of a steady gig and a successful tech designer. They are wildly different from each other but fiercely loyal to each other as they’ve been friends since college.

HARLEM is currently a 10 episode series that follows the lives of these 4 young women as they are working out their lives, looking for stability that’s supposed to have already arrived, according to societal norms. None are married, (well…), most have job issues, family issues, love issues; the stuff of life.

Sociological commentary pops up along the way with some interesting historical flashbacks about Harlem that I found interesting. Less enjoyable we’re the contemporary political commercials. Too many were forced upon the story and didn’t occur organically between the characters. This aspect is getting TIRESOME from filmmakers!!!

The 18+ rating is appropriate with lots of colorful language, well, there’s mostly the F crayon used😡 and a high preoccupation and participation in sex.

This series won’t be for everyone but the characters are complex and interesting, the storyline has enough arcs to keep from becoming boring and the production value is good in both cinematography and the very eclectic score. HARLEM might be a city on the east coast but this program should appeal and be relatable to anyone who likes relationship stories with a big city experience, regardless of geography🍿
