4.0 out of 5 starsPretty good ending to the trilogy
Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2021
This is the last book in the series. Spoiler alert. The alternate time line ends up with about the same result as what happened in reality.

I was a little disappointed at the number of writing errors in the book. Mostly wrong words and phrases that made no sense. I think it needed another pass from the editors.

But overall, the book was fun to read and that is what matters, even with the issues.

One thing all three books had issues with was the dialogue. Sometimes what was written down as what was being said by a character just did not seem like something someone would actually say.

All three books tried to humanize the monsters that ran Iraq at the time too. They were not misguided and just on the other side as the books tried to portray. They were evil, just as the Nazis and their minions were evil.

1.0 out of 5 starsA total letdown!!
Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2022
This series had promise, but utterly failed at the end. The first two books built the story of a toughened Iraqi military given Soviet "advisors" and thousands of updated tanks, planes and other equipment in order to take over Saudi, Kuwait, the UAE and Oman.

Iraq is successful in reaching its objectives and puts up a tough fight against what forces the Americans bring into play, then this book comes along and ruins everything.

It is obvious the authors didn't care anymore and just wanted to end this series. There are numerous grammatical errors that weren't present in the first two books, but the worse part is the authors just took the easy way out and had the Iraqi military just give up like it did during the real Desert Storm. As a matter of fact if you know how the real Desert Storm ended then no need to buy this book because the authors end it exactly how Desert Storm ended.

This book could of even longer and the story could of been far better with an Iraqi military duking it out and not running away the whole book. I wouldn't waste my time or money on this book if I were you.

Aside from some poor editing, which accounts for a 4, instead of a five star rating, this was a read worthy if your time and a money. The premise is great and intriguing, especially in this involvement actual historical engagements were worked into this what-if alt-history plot. As one who watched CNN, captivated by Desert Storm, as a high school junior and future enlistee, I remember the national trepidation at the thought of enga6what we thought would be a bloody near- peer war. History showed us how wrong this apprehensions were, but at the time the nation could not predict the one-sideness and rapidity of the ground war. The authors do a good job of showing the fluidity and rapidity of the ground war.

What was not really shown in this series was the scale of death inflicted upon Iraqi forces, even with the staggering numbers of surrenders. As an engineering troop who enlisted in early summer in 1992. I grew up on the stories of engineer NCOs who had to literally fill in trenches full of Iraqi conscript bodies who died in place because they were bracketed front and rear with alternating trenches filled with oil and Republican Guard blocking forces to the rear and advancing allied forces to the front. Our airstrikes immolated them because they were unable to withdraw due to their die-in-place orders enforced by the RG forces who killed deserters. The scale destruction was often indescribable as follow-on engineering units had to inter these bodies with dozens in the trenches where they died. I hope the future volumes address this.

I also hope that future volumes delve deeper into the friendly fire casualties that were a huge part of ODS. Additionally. I am curious as to the authors portray the Soviets at this point in their 7 decade descent into failed statehood.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written

So this author spends most of the series giving briefings hundreds of pages of briefings. Then when battles start he skips details that could make the story enjoyable. Worse he then skips the battle in many cases. Lack of maps leave the read confused as to locations in his “briefings” overall the three books are not enjoyable to read. Sad because he had lots of opportunity to tell the tail well. Worse the editing is poor leading to tanks called t73’s (lol) and confusing stories of Iraqi brothers capturing each other or something. Will not read another book by him.

But what do you expect from Rosone and Jackson.
I almost wish this would have been an alternative story telling where we went on into Iraq and actually FOUND WMD’s and avoided the second war. I wonder if the Turks/Iran wishes to extinguish the Kurds and end this now would be the same as after the second war.
Maybe, just maybe, we could have had it out with them, gotten he Kurds something, eliminated Iran and skipped Afghanistan altogether. Yeah, I know it would be a very alternative story and not really in the genre for Brother Rosone…….but one can hope.
Congrats tot he authors-

Desert Storm - Crisis in the Desert is the best of the three part series. It's presents an accurate feel to the very complex events that make up modern warfare. From the President down to the Privates in the foxholes, you are presented with what it's like to make decisions that involve men and women's lives and how they react accordingly. Some of the battlefield communications can be difficult to follow unless you have a military background. That being said, this one the best books of its type I've read. If you enjoy believable military novels, this one is for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Need to beef up research in naval warfare

Need to do more research in naval warfare. There is a zone of control around carrier task forces. The American sub San Juan would never had let the Iraqi sub get that close. Also this was supposed to be the newest American sub. It would have been undetectable by the Iranian sub. Also the American sub would have been conducting maneuvers to prevent a sub from staying in their baffles. Also the carrier would not head directly toward where there were under water explosions also the ships attached to the task force would be screening at the carrier also the Iraqi sub was so noisy yet the fleet dId not detect them

I was in Desert Storm, and we all thought the way it ended was BS. This story has the same problem, political puked getting involved when they should stay out.

I always thought it was a tremendous blessing to have an enemy as stupid as Saddam Hussein. This story probably gives him more credit than he deserves but, he's screaming in Hell forever, so it doesn't matter.

It was a good story but I never found myself caring about any of the characters. Worth reading the series, once.

The fight to remove the Iraqi military from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia has snow reached its climatic end. POTUS will not negotiate a peace treaty with Saddam Hussein. He will only accept a surrender. His military is retreating and being chased by the American and British forces. The media and world opinions are going against POTUS. The fight has now become political like Korea and Vietnam. Another excellent read in this series!!

This third installment of the Desert Storm Series gives a great telling of the war against the Iraq army. As usual with these authors you get realistic scenarios and edge of your seat battles. I enjoyed how if continued to give the reader insight into managing the war. Many of the historical events of Desert Storm are in the book, adding to its authenticity. Highly recommended reading.
