5.0 out of 5 starsI love this series
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 3, 2022
I tried to force myself to read this book slower, but I still devoured it. I love this series so much!

This book follows Campbell, the eldest MacPherson brother and Clarissa, a close friend of Kate. Clarissa, a 28-year-old wallflower feels England with her grandmother and seeks refuge in Scotland at Kate's and Broderick's house (couple from the previous book). She needs protection from a psychopathic stalker who is getting more violent in his efforts to "prove" his love for Clarissa. After realizing they aren't safe in Scotland either, they ask Campbell to keep Clarissa safe. I agree, who's better for the job, than a grumpy giant Scotsman?

I love a brooding hero who could tear the world apart, if anyone touches what's his, but he also turns butter in the hand of his love. Campbell was perfection. Broderick is still my absolute favorite (I have a soft spot for "beastly" heroes), but Campbell is on the very top too. He's everything I want in a hero.
Clarissa is a fun heroine! She's brave, caring and has a tender heart. Her nervous trait is, that she blabbers and spits out innuendos. Which is something I also do, so I felt seen 🙃 She was a badass at the final showdown. I was super proud of her.
Their chemistry is off the charts and the sexy parts left me fanning myself.

I felt the supernatural elements were stronger in this book, which I loved. I actually had goosebumps a couple of times.

Now, the sad part...Dash..that broke my heart. But it also helped me to hate Northfield with a burning passion.
I really appreciated Fergus and Butter. My soul needed them.

Things I loved:
- a giant hero who tears apart anything and everything that threatens what's dear to him
- everyone knows I love you, except you
- Clarissa's tender heart
- the supernatural elements (Mrs. MacBean is at it again)
- Clarissa's blabbering and innuendos
- the stalker trope
...yeah I loved everything :D I can't wait to read Alexander's story, but I have a feeling, he will break my heart.

Elisa Braden was a new to me author in 2021, but she quickly became one of my favorites and I also joined her advance team of FB. I can't wait to go back and read her other works too.

Elisa Braden need I say more, the woman is on a roll. She seems incapable of producing anything less then a good read and a good time. Dragged on at the end but I know it's a re read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Campbell and Clarissa Triumph

Campbell Macpherson and Clarissa Meadows find love together when she needs protection from a particularly sadistic stalker. A bodyguard/forced proximity romance. Stalwart Campbell and his equally strapping brothers take justice into their own hands to thwart the stalker. Campbell is a take charge hero, a brooding loaner. Clarissa makes some questionable choices, but hey, that keep the story going.

I would have given this book 5 stars except for a fair number of animals lose their lives or are injured during the course of the story -- wildlife, livestock and pets. There's just something about this that I feel doesn't belong in a romance. So, those who feel strongly about this sort of thing beware.

This is a well-written, sexy, and suspenseful story. Its my favorite combo -- I just really didn't care for what happens to all the poor animals.

Loved the humor and the heroine's nervous chatter. Mrs. McBean and her blend of second sight and age related muttering are hilarious. Glad hero and heroine got their happily ever after.

I'm in love with Elisa Braden's Midnight in Scotland series and book 3 for right in with the first two. I wasn't sure how I would like gruff Campbell, but he won me over with his protective grumpy ways. Clarissa fits in to the Scottish clan perfectly. My only true grumble was I felt the build up to the climax needed a little more, but otherwise it was another great read by Braden.

Braden's "Rescued from Ruin" series is superb...definitely 4-5 star books! I've had a harder time getting into her Scotland series of books. I couldn't quite get into the story of Clarissa and Campbell. The "Scotland" couples are not as captivating as Eugenia and Holstoke...or Maureen and Dunston. This book is more of an echo of the outstanding "Rescued from Ruin" series.

Estela Reads Romance
4.0 out of 5 stars A Few Triggers… but the story was fabulous!!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 5, 2022
Starring Clarissa Meadows and Campbell MacPherson.

Tropes: Bodyguard, Close Proximity, Highlander/English Miss, Spinster/Wallflower-ish, Paranormal.

I absolutely loved Clarissa and Campbell… what a delicious pair they made. But I’m going to admit that this was a very hard read for me. It had two of my triggers… an obsessed stalker and pets getting hurt. So it took me a while to finish this book because I had to keep walking away from it.

But the things that I loved… Clarissa has no filter when shes around Campbell. The innuendos and double entendres kept me laughing so hard!! Omigosh I cringed for her!! But she is exactly what Campbell needed. He loved her ramblings and she will certainly keep him on his toes. She was such a fun heroine!!

I also love how growly Campbell is. Mmmm mmmm…. how he was described through Clarissa’s eyes had me fanning myself. He’s gruffy, growly, and overly protective… that there already is the perfect t hero. Just absolutely made my toes curl.

All in all this was a great story. There’s a mystic element that makes things interesting. And it’s definitely a steamy read… which I always say “thank you, Elisa Braden”.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily review it and the comments are 100% my own.

4 stars: Book was great. Loved the characters. Storyline kept me entertained... but did not make me cry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cam and Clarissa Turn Up the Heat and Danger!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 12, 2022
I really enjoyed this next McPherson book. Cam was a very grumpy hero and Clarissa was the perfect counterpart for him. I’m always a sucker for these plots where the H steps in to keep the h safe from danger. I loved the parts where we see Clarissa lose her filter while speaking with Cam, and he always seemed cool as a cucumber, but then we’d get to his pov, and it turned out that he was just barely holding it together while around her lol.

Mrs. MacBean’s eccentric ramblings and chaotic premonitions have always been pretty fun, and now Cam’s addition of “the sight” was an extra entertaining part of the story. It added another layer of intrigue to this family.

The progression of the plot kept me entertained throughout the novel. I also became more and more intrigued by the remaining unwed brothers, Alexander and Rannoch. I’m especially hoping we get to read about Rannoch and his Mouse in the next book!

She Who Shall Remain Nameless
4.0 out of 5 stars Another great read from a gifted author

This author has a way with writing romances coupled with suspense and horrible villains. This one was especially awful. Having been stalked in my youth, I can attest to it being a terrifying experience. This man’s violent treatment of both humans and animals was particularly bone chilling. I very much liked both Clarissa and Campbell, although there were some aspects of him that very much reminded me of the heroes from the Rescued From Ruin books 5 and 8. The secondary characters in these books are all very compelling and definitely add to the rich tapestry of the story. Additionally, both the writing and editing were exceptionally well done as is this author’s usual. Overall, this was an excellent book which I highly recommend.

This was a really good read. The trouble is Elisa has set the bar so high with her initial books that I can’t give that 5 out of 5 for the last two. I enjoyed this and read it quickly. It just didn’t immerse me in the story and characters like the earlier books. Worth reading though.
