I’m never one to write synopsis in a review. Fortunately there are many others with actual talent for brief summary. Instead I try to speak to readers like myself, looking for reassurance that the story they’re purchasing will be worth the investment of money and time. If that’s you, hit “purchase” immediately! This series just gets better and better. Enjoy seeing each of the MacPhersons come alive. Some series in HR can become repetitive in both character and plot, but this one is full of equally unique, complex leads, fascinating storylines and intriguing background characters. Elisa plants seeds that sometimes don’t bear fruit for another two or three novels. I can’t get enough of those “aha!” moments. Campbell and Clarissa are two wonderful, flawed, loyal, intelligent, interesting characters. Their chemistry is …wow. “Scorching” is probably overused in these reviews but absolutely fits the heat level of this story. Each book in this series flirts more with some darker themes and paranormal subplots, which have been off- putting in HR for me in the past. But every time I place trust in EB that she’ll weave all the sadness and beauty and humor and mystery together into a deeply satisfying experience, she rewards me with something even better than the last time. Already pining for the next book!

ETA and SPOILER ALERT: the one minor quibble I have is I would have liked to have seen Campbell and Clarissas’ experiences in the FIRST dreams they shared, and/or their first time seeing each other. Would have done more to establish their relationship.

1.0 out of 5 starsDo NOT buy if your an animal lover!
Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2022
I wanted to save any other animal lovers from buying this book. I read the inside first pages before I purchased it and bought it in part because of the adorable description and relationship the main character has with her beloved cat. Not even a quarter of the way into the book, said cat is found DEAD, killed by the psycho stalker in a horrible description of floating in bloody water. Killing children, or animals in ANY book for "entertainment" is NOT what I want to get lost in, and maybe not others either. I read in the bio the author likes "cute" (as opposed to ugly?) dogs. I guess her affinity doesn't apply to all animals, certainly not cats it seems.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely tale of an enduring love

Will they let their fears come between them …

I know I did not read this book in the best condition, Christmas holidays and the usual winter cold to numb my brain are far from the perfect setting for a much anticipated read.
This tale was equally dark and merry.
The events which led Clarissa into Campbell’s arms are part dramatic, part horrific. Yet it made them stronger as they rose from the ashes of everything they lost.
Clarissa, after years of gracing the walls of every ton’s ballrooms, is for once seen but in stepping into the limelight she awakened a madman’s obsession. Leading her to flee as far away as possible. And soon it is her who finds herself bewitched, so much, she at time looses her ability to think properly when in the vicinity of her host’s giant of a brother.
Campbell, the elder of the MacPherson’s siblings fights tooth and nails the pull he feels toward his brothe’s guest, Clarissa. He has reasons to, his past and secrets prevent him to go for what his heart longs for. But the call at a time becomes too strong, he can not let her go.

Those two together are scorching the pages, from double intendo to searing the sheets, they ignite the words of this steamy tale.
A moving and sensual story with a dash of magic of a love stronger than darkness and pain.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Temptation Is Worth it! - Loved it

I loved "The Temptation of a Highlander". I couldn't put the book down and even had to pace myself. The book has a great plot and it keeps you engaged from the beginning to the end. There are a lot of scenes that make you laugh and a lot of other scenes that make your heart squeeze tight. There are scenes in the book that make you bite your nails as you get so scared that you pray for the heroine or hero so nothing bad happens to them. Clarissa is extremely loveable, she is so giving and caring for others that even all the pets in the book can't help but fall in love with her. I love Cam, he is so rugged and strong and just a huge teddy bear with a great heart and lots of courage to protect Clarissa. I also love how this book incorporates all other characters from the last two series and gives you a taste of what is to come. Especially Mrs. McBean! Therefore you must read this book! (P.S Make sure you read all the others in the series first if you haven't, you won't regret it)

If you haven’t read this author’s work yet, you are really missing great writing, wonderful storylines, and totally amazing characters. So excited for the chance to be swept away by yet another of Elisa Braden’s amazing adventures.

There was instant attraction when they met, but with so many insecurities and doubts interfering with their hearts’ desires would Clarissa and Campbell ever have their chance at love. What a powerful connection (almost unworldly) that would grow and flourish to heights they could not imagine. The force that drew him to her was undeniable, and he would protect her at all cost.

I received a free copy of this book for my honest review. This one is a must read that I highly recommend. You will be captivated by the MacPherson family and the magical highland countryside they call home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story, humor and heat, loved it.

This is the third book in a terrific series by this author.

In this story Lady Clarissa Meadows and her grandmother, the dowager Countess of Darnham, live in genteel poverty at the whim of her cousin the new earl. Her grandfather has died and the new earl is selfish and thoughtless toward both women.
One way to obtain their financial security is for Clarissa to marry well, but she has little faith in that option. After all, how many attempts at the London season can one really withstand? The monetary expense is bad enough, but the last time she braved the annual mating ritual of the nobility, she caught the attention of a man who has since been stalking her.
This man, a second son, is becoming increasingly threatening. So in an attempt to thwart his attempts to get to Clarissa, the two women go to Scotland to visit friends.
It is while visiting that Clarissa meets Campbell MacPherson. A brawny man, Clarissa is fascinated with his size and strength, and his very presence makes her nervous. Campbell notices Clarissa as well, and also becomes aware of the situation with her stalker.
The story becomes one of a man who decides to give a woman his protection and the how that evolves into a passionate love.
This plot has the added intrigue of a dangerous, predatory stalker, several interesting characters, quirky humor, and heat.
It's a well written, terrific read and I highly recommend it. I am looking forward to the next in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic, a giant, and a stalker!
Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2021

Elisa gives us another winner! This is book 3 in the Midnight in Scotland series. Our main characters are grunt-prone, giant Campbell MacPherson, the oldest of the MacPherson siblings, and former chubby wallflower turned diamond Clarissa Meadows, who is best friends with Kate, our heroine from book 2, The Taming of a Highlander.

Clarissa and her grandmother are forced to flee their home in England to escape an obsessed, murderous, stalker suitor that Clarissa managed to pick up during her one successful season. She heads north to hide at Kate's home in the Scottish Highlands, but of course the creep finds her and so a scheme is hatched for Clarissa to move in with Kate's reclusive brother-in-law and hide there until the creep can be hunted down and eliminated. This might have been a simple solution if it weren't for the fact that Clarissa and Cam are already suffering from a lust-at-first-sight (really love-at-first-sight) situation. They've both been fighting the attraction for different reasons since day one; Clarissa with less success than Cam since every time he speaks to her she gets flustered and develops a case of word vomit that is embarrassingly heavy on the sexual innuendos. Reminded me of my girl Jane from The Truth About Cads and Dukes, but on a much more cringey, hilarious scale.

Something that I really enjoyed about this book is how Elisa sort of flipped the script on the whole "hot and bothered" role. Normally we read about the hero who has trouble keeping his thoughts PG and his hands to himself. In this case it's Clarissa who's basically walking around in a constant state of rut. We eventually find out that Cam is pretty much in the same boat, but he's much better at hiding it. Refreshing flip, IMO. In typical Elisa fashion, the love scenes we do get are very steamy. Intense, descriptive, vivid. Our hero is a dirty talker. 😉

The supernatural trope is a bit more pronounced in this story, with Cam having "the sight," meaning he can catch glimpses of the future in his dreams, as well as communicate with deceased loved ones in his sleep, and infiltrate Clarissa's dreams (which naturally become very steamy.) Mrs. MacBean and her clairvoyant, often hilarious, advice also shines in this story. She's a riot! 😂

This book also has a higher "fear" factor, IMO. The early scene in Clarissa's grandfather's study gave me a serious case of the heebie-jeebies, and the creepy stalker storyline constantly had me expecting all kinds of "BOO!" moments. We didn't get to spend anytime in the villain's head, except through a couple of short, creepy letters he sends to Clarissa, so I think that upped the "scary" quotient. We never knew what to expect.

All in all, another entertaining read from Elisa and, as usual, really looking forward to the next one. Not sure who's slated for book 4, but I really hope it's Rannoch and his Mouse. I feel like she's gonna give our charming playboy hell, in the best ways! 😏

**I received an ARC directly from the author in exchange for an honest, voluntary review but, as always, this author is an auto-buy for me and my pre-order will automatically download on release day. 🙂

I absolutely loved this book. I think I love each McPherson more than the last. This book had all of Elisa Braden's signature charm. Campbell is a grumpy Highlander who has lost in love and believes he has nothing to offer any woman. Clarissa is a sunny wallflower who makes the best of any situation. Together they make a most wonderful pair.

The MC's chemistry if off the charts and I think this might be one of Elisa's most steamy books. I loved how Clarissa got so flustered whenever Campbell was near that all her comments came out as double entendre!

Did Mrs. MacBean leave a clue that there would be another book after Alexander and Rannoch? I hope so!

Elisa Braden is an auto buy for because reading her books is like a homecoming every time. Her writing and ability to create a family of characters is unmatched. From the first page I was hooked and wanted to be there with the characters... especially the tall, hunky Scottish man with the broad shoulders and quiet yet caring nature.

I absolutely loved this book. Campbell was big and scary but soft for his Clarissa. This was very much the Grumpy One is Soft for the Sunshine One trope and I couldn’t get enough of it.

I loved the element of danger always lurking and the tiny bit of a paranormal aspect this book (and series!) has. You’re always on your toes and entertained.

The steam level in this book was off the charts. Who knew quiet Campbell would be such a dirty talker? And I loved that Clarissa gave it right back. Such a hot couple!

The ending was perfect. Like any other Elisa Braden book the HEA was the perfect cherry on top of the story. I can hardly wait for the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Midnight in Scotland So Far

I prefer Braden’s Rescued from Ruin series, but I appreciate the Midnight in Scotland series as well. I like that the two series are connected. Normally I’m not a big fan of mystical/ magical components, but Braden did a nice job of not overusing those components in this book. The villain, Northfield, was a cunning adversary and provided lots of suspense. But the best parts were Clarissa and Campbell and especially Clarissa’s innuendo filled babbling throughout the first half of the book. Braden writes relationships well, not just the H/h, but how all the characters interact with each other. Clarissa’s friendships and relationship with her grandmother, Campbell’s relationship with his brothers, these interactions all create a well rounded world that I can’t wait to visit again.
