5.0 out of 5 starsA feel-good holiday tale

This was a pleasant holiday story. Two long-suffering mothers managed to get their unmarried children together over Christmas. The dog had a paw in the match making efforts as well. I got teary-eyed a couple of times but reading until the happy ending was totally worth it.

It was going great, although I don’t like the man who’re aspect of most romances. But, the H blatantly lied to the h, saying he wanted the woman she caught him with. How is that EVER ok? To hurt someone so badly when she was putting her trust in him? Another “romance” it’s the h taking all the chances and the H being untrustworthy.

Ivy is a woman who knows what she wants and refused to settle for less in a time when that wasn’t the norm. Everett is a good man for her. They understand each other’s jokes and have plenty of common interests.
I thought the reason his father didn’t believe him over another party was extremely thin, but otherwise it’s a good book.
There are a few swear words and a few intimate scenes.

ivy and Ever art's story, is a love story perfectly suited for a Christmas story. You quickly begin to care for them and hope that all works out for them. I enjoyed the detail of her characters and that he story on Everett is it perfect but one of being human. I am reading Charles' story next. Merry Christmas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Regency. Loved it. Had a plot!

First book I've read from this author. I liked it very much. I like a Regency that has a real story, not just sex. The steamy scene toward the end was the payoff, giving the reader a chance to see how things developed. I enjoy that. I'm bored with characters jumping in and out of bed constantly for no reason, like a lot of Regencies do these days. I will definitely read more of her books.

Elle St. Clair has a rather good storyline. She establishes good individual characters and build upon their strengths and weaknesses to create good interlocking concepts for the ending of the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another sweet read by Ellie St. Clair
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 20, 2021
4 1/2 stars. I just read and thoroughly enjoyed the latest book in the Thieves of Desire series, and found this short holiday-themed book to be a winner, as well. It seems as if Ellie St. Clair is at her best when her characters are of the working class or second sons--people wanting to make their ways in the world. The h here is the daughter of a magistrate, 26, and is considered on the shelf. She's never found anyone in her town who she's felt is worth pursuing, and dreams of travelling to escape the tedium of her everyday life. She first became interested in the H ten years ago, when she was 16, but she felt as if he completely overlooked her, and then he disappeared from the town. Their mothers have been close friends for years, and decide to do some matchmaking for the couple, reuniting them at a Christmas house party. H/h originally decide to pretend to be interested in each other as a way to trick their mothers, but then their flirtation becomes something much more.

I like that this H is willing to own up to his mistakes, and by that same token, is a moral person who stands by what he believes is right. He's been estranged from his father for a decade due to lies his father's friend spread about him when he was preparing to be a barrister, and is struggling to get his modest business in London off the ground. He's also trying to overcome his reputation as a rake. Although I felt the h could have been a bit more distinctive as a character, she and H have great chemistry, and the addition of Spirit the dog is an enjoyable element. All of the secondary characters are nicely fleshed out for a book of this length. No editing errors.

Language is mild. Heat level is 3.

Bottom line: completely enjoyable holiday read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unusual, Intriguing, Christmas Story
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 9, 2021
Ah, Christmas the time of good will, time with family and cheer. Which is great for Hallmark movies and cards.
In real life it doesn't always work out that way.
Ivy Northrup longs for anything different then the same thing day in and out. She would like an adventure, some excitement something. But in the small town of Cambridgeshire nothing much ever changes. She has lived here all her life and watched her sisters and brother marry and start families. She has turned down many offers because she wants
more the just being married. None of the men she has met make her feel special.
When she learns the family has been invited to the Christmas Party given by the Earl of Walsingham is should make her feel somewhat excited. Unfortunately, it is the same every year, some people, food and games are so she thinks.
Everett Pine is the second son of the Earl of Walsingham and has not been home for ten years. His father and him had a falling out, when his father believed others over him. He is only coming back due to his mother strange letter.
A young lady slips on the icy walks and falls right at his feet ! He can't believe it; it is a girl has known all his life and was best friends with her brother. Only she is not a little girl any more but a lovely young lady and she remembers him.
As Ivy and Everett get to talk, they notice both their mother are acting very odd. It soon becomes very clear to both of them that the mothers are playing match makers again !! Ivy and Everett decide to teach them both a lesson for meddling again in their Lifes. They are going to fake a courtship so the mothers think they have won. Now what could go wrong with this plan ?? Things are not always as they seem and these two will find that out. But with some Christmas magic help from Everett's friend Charlie and the sweetest little dog, Spirte maybe all can be saved.
There are twist and turns, that you will not see coming, evil people causing problems and lies to correct.
This is a fast-moving story and you will not be able to put it down. I loved most of the characters, how some got what
was coming to them and the ending was priceless. I hope you get a copy and get start, it's a wonderful story filled with love and forgiveness just right for the Christmas season. Romancing with so much more.
I received and ARC and wish to thank the author this is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Heartwarming Holiday Romance!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 8, 2021
What a wonderful holiday story with main & secondary characters that pull you in to their Christmas House Party celebration. Our hero, Mr. Everett Pine is a second son of an earl & went through school training to be a barrister but now he is out on him own trying to start a business as a solicitor. His Mother has written him, asking him to the holiday house party they are having - he has not been home for ten years after his father accused him wrongly & banished him from their home. His Mother may have worded the invitation a little strange & it worried him, so he accepted the invitation. Everett, his recue dog, Spirit & Everett's friend, Morris headed to the country party. Miss Ivy Northrup is twenty-six years old, daughter of a squire, is intelligent, & lovely but has never found a male to interest her; although, there have been several offers for her hand. She knows she needs to find a way to provide for herself & hopes one day she will be able to travel away from her small area that she lives in & have some adventures. Her mother has always tried to find new gentleman for her to meet & now she has informed Ivy that they have been invited to the Earl of Walsingham's Christmas Party (Everett Pine's former home). The matchmaking mamas of Everett & Ivy have schemed to get their son & daughter together. His Mother is hoping the holiday spirit will bring forgiveness between her husband & son plus he might find love with Ivy. Ivy's Mother hopes that she will get reacquainted with her childhood friend & now that they are older, there may be a future love match. Will their mothers' scheming work or will past rumors & lies keep them from each other? It's Christmas & miracles do happen in many ways & I highly recommend this well-written book to brighten your holidays & leave you with a smile - plus Spirit, the rescue pup, will put a smile on anyone's face with his antics. I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars - Ivy and Everett

A holiday, fake relationship historical romance.

Everett, a second son of an earl, disowned by his family, now tries to make his way in the world. Alarmed to get a letter from his mom alluding to her poor health, he succumbs to attend a holiday house party at his parent's home. Meanwhile, Ivy is looking for adventure and control in her life. Their matchmaing mommas decide they would be good together and desire to bring them together for the upcoming holiday season. Will the moms' plan succeed? Do Ivy or Everett suspect anything? Why was Everett disowned? Is there a HEA ending included? A delightful holiday tale with some angst, some steam, unexpected trust, love and acceptance.

I received an ARC of this book from the author, and am voluntarily leaving my review.
