I liked this one a lot but..

I’m a fan of this author for sure. I was stoked when I saw this book pop up as I was ready for a fresh read from her.
Now, I only have a few disappointments with this one. One is personal so take it with a grain of salt, but the book that this author wrote that hooked me on her, had a black female lead. So for some weird reason, I keep expecting another to pop up when I read her stuff, but to no avail :/ hence my personal disappointment when starting this one.
Loved the storyline with this, the trigger warnings for me were a bit heavy only because I expected the triggers to be highly intense, but they were mild at best IMO. Definitely some puckering scenes, but nothing insane or overly jarring. Maybe I’m just desensitized?
The story started off super strong and stress inducing. Loved the scene building in the beginning the most. The gripping telling of the onset of an apocalypse had me by the throat. But then it lulled a bit for me the rest of the way until about midway. And I was hoping while there wasn’t too much going on in the way of action that we’d get a lot on the romance side. But I felt like even that was a little slow as far as; we didn’t even get to the to the juicy bits until it was nearly the final act. There were some cool and unique things that happened between the Hh but I don’t want to spoil the story, so I’ll shut up.
All in all though I’m definitely looking forward to the next one!
