I received this book free from Raven Publicity and am leaving my honest review!
Rebecca has created a fascinating world of immortals at war, fully removed from the human realm. The three factions, Vampyres, Slayers, and Deamons, are warring between the three of them in a world that values tradition and masculinity over all else. Enter Kilani, a Slayer woman forbidden to be the only thing that truly fits....a warrior. Enter Aleric, a Vampyre commander who does the unthinkable.....saves the life of their mortal enemy. What's a woman to do?
I really enjoyed reading The Dawn of Peace! I loved how the relationship between Kilani and Aleric developed, and I was glad to see the author create their relationship over time rather than making it all happen "off camera." They made a really good pairing, and I'm so happy to see them getting their happy ending together!
My only gripe, however, is that certain things felt a little staged. While I loved how Kilani and Aleric teased each other, a few exchanges felt seemed a bit contrived to me and read slightly awkward. Her final interaction with her dad, especially so. It was awfully convenient the way events happened that "forced" her to leave when she could have left at any time. I get what it was supposed to do for the plot, but it was a bit eh for me as a plot point.
Overall, though, I enjoyed this prequel, and I'm really looking forward to understanding more of this world! I can't wait to meet more of the characters and read their stories!
