Top critical review
great plot, poor execution

The plot sounded exciting, but there were so many little annoyances that marred my enjoyment of it.
There were a few typos and misused words that the editor really should have caught. For example, the police don’t “employ” the public to come forward with information to assist in an investigation, they “implore” them. Small, I know, but irksome.
The character development was on the shallow side and between that and the vocabulary stuff, it really wasn’t well written.
The main character was shallow and spoiled. It was hard to have any sympathy for her between her self absorption and boozing. Oh, and the murdering. Instead of leaving a formerly abusive husband, she decided to murder him. She was flaky, in a moment of mopey reflection she nearly flies her plane into a mountain? What a moron.
She has almost no outrage over what her husband did to others. Her empathy for his victims who were tormented and murdered could maybe fill one paragraph. All she seemed worried about was losing her multimillion dollar home. She’s whining about money but sucking down a bottle of alcohol each night? And then she goes to Alaska…
So she turns from spoiled rich lady into adventure lady. She’s still dippy though and nearly crashes her and her love interest riding a snow mobile. But somehow she has morphed into this super outdoor Amazon. She does ridiculous and unlikely things.
She does get revenge on her husband in a well deserved comeuppance. But it is so rushed it is an unsatisfactory blip. And the author wrote out all the screams in the confrontation and fight. “Ahhhh!” “Ahh!” It looks silly to read, too cartoony.
There’s a twist I saw coming from the beginning of the book. And in the finale the cop, who manages to fall in love with her (why) in less than a week, behaves in a ridiculously unprofessional manner and shoots the bad guy twice in the back without identifying himself at all. Not very heroic. And he helps her cover up the crime.
Most stories are unrealistic and that’s fine, they are written for escapism. But this one is just too silly with unlikeable characters.
