The story of these characters survival was great. I loved the way it started at the beginning of the infection. The effects on the survivors and triumph of victory was amazing. One of the things I loved was the fact that the disaster was started by friends of the characters, the betrayal was enormous. Can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

This was just as good as the first time I read it. From beginning to end, the story was well told, the characters believe able with good guys and bad guys and of course the monsters. If you're into apocalyptic books then this will keep you reading to the end.

I love the ideas in this series and liked many of the characters. However if an author is going to have rifles, hand guns, and confrontations involving them, that author should familiarize him/herself with at least a passing knowledge of types and models of rifles, types and models of shoguns, revolvers and pistols. He should never have a police officer give up a firearm to bad guy. This does not willingly happen in real life and it is even less likely in a national emergency. Loaded magazines to kill off dozens of infected do not just appear out of thin air to fit a pistol that "skittered across the ground" in the previous scene altercation with a bad guy to be picked up by the protagonist. After studing those things, authors should also hire proficient editors and proof readers. There were entirely too many misuses of words, mispellings/typos and instances of bad grammar. All of that deals a heavy blow to fairly decent story line. I did finish all 7 books, but I found myself feeling sorry for the author toward the end. I thought, I've read too far now to give up, I must finish this. I'm not sure I made the right decision. One caveat to all this is that I spent the whole of 99 cents and was entertained for a week. I more than got my money's worth. Just based on the books, I'd give it 3 stars, but because of the value for my 99 cents, it gets 4 stars. 99 cents won't even buy a bag of chips at the theater.

... four stars because, at least for me, five stars are reserved for great literature. I enjoyed this series and for those who gave poor reviews or were disappointed, I'm not sure what they're looking for. When reading this type of "end of the world" story, the one thing to look for is that it keeps you on the edge of your seat and you're able to read it and also see it in your mind's eye as though you're watching a movie. That makes for a good read to me, when I can "see" it in my mind. To keep up with so many different characters, is a nice break from real life, in my book.
If we pretend that this is a real story, believing in the characters for example, little pearls of wisdom come forth, as in "every day seemed like a gift in a world that didn't have many favors left to give" and "the simple comfort of a mattress felt like heaven"; these are things a person can identify with, if one has suffered at any time in their life. It's those types of comments that brings the reader to a slow halt, to digest a story that is entirely for the purpose of vacationing from real life but also a reminder of what's most important. The little things.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series, especially that it was all in one reading as a boxed set and not individual, wait til the next book comes out kind of read. And then, even when you thought it was over, there was yet another point of view from a character in the beginning that one might have forgotten that neatly wrapped up the experience of each individual mentioned.

This series is different than the typical zombie or apocalypse book. It’s more believable. Something that could happen…maybe not to that extreme but maybe even worse. Being different is what makes it good! Just give this book series a try…I bet you’ll find it very interesting!
Only 4 stars because it’s missing something but I’m not sure what. Maybe I’m just used to the more action packed full on zom-poc books. Don’t get me wrong, this is an awesome book series and I’m glad I read it…there’s just something “missing”. If I figure it out, I’ll come back and change my review.
