Loved that Effie had an eating disorder. I have recovered from mine, and it was very tough. This story was so believable on so many levels—the struggles and the heart of the characters made for riveting reading!
Another enjoyable read by Shawn Inmon, and the adventures in Middle Falls continue. For those of you who don’t know about Middle Falls, it is a town where some people get a second chance, or multiple chances to live the live they were meant to have lived, but it usually takes them multiple lives to figure out what changes should be made. This is a book where the subject is a popular author, but managed to get her life so entwined with her mother’s life, she has no life of her own. She has everything anyone could ever want, but her freedom. A great book! I thought I would get tired of reading a series this long, but that hasn’t happened yet. And I won’t miss any future books about Middle Falls.
I have read all the books in the series in less than a week. This is the best series of books that I have ever read. I really enjoyed the time frame of the 60s as I grew up during this period. The familiarity of the small town life along with the historical events that happened in the 60s,the stricter moral code , the Vietnam War all made the books special. I hope the books continue on .
I don’t review any book less and three or four stars because if I read it the author accomplished something I have tried and failed to do. The fifth star means I would buy the book at the store and hope the author gets rich.
I love the optimism of the entire series. I read all of them in order although the order is optional. I like the notion of a shot at getting a do-over. I like the happy endings. Mostly I like that it isn’t the usual action/sex/shock books. There’s a place for those but from time to time you need to read a book meant to steadily rise to a happy ending. It can sort of offset the bad days in the news.
My thanks and compliments to the Author and I will be waiting on the next go-around.
I always have to write a little review for these Middle Falls books because they seem to be the only fiction books that really stick with me and make me think while I read and after I’m done. I liked all 15 of them, and I am looking forward to the next one that I already preordered. Other reviewers told you what these books are about. I can add that they’re easy, light reading with a deeper meaning in them. They will make you smile, laugh and cry. Although there’s drama in each book, you know that the end will leave you with a smile and a feeling of lightness because in the end, redemption will happen, and all the pain and drama were not useless. Effie and all the characters in this book are very likable (except her mom I guess, but she gets some redemption too, at a certain point). The author’s last word is always an enjoyable bonus, and this time it made me realize I forgot some of the old characters that were in this book. It’s probably time for me to start re-reading the whole series again! Thank you, Shawn Inmon, for another lovely story and for the ones to come.
The Encore Lives of Effie Edenson is the fifteenth in the Middle Falls series by Shawn Inmon. Mr. Inmon has also written two other series, both of which I enjoy tremendously, though they are very different from this one. Middle Falls is a very special place, where people who have made a mess of their lives are not necessarily condemned to end their lives in that condition. Though some may be stubborn enough in their mistakes to have to try over and over, those whom the mysterious Watchers choose are not abandoned until they have got things right. Effie is outwardly a fantastically successful author with everything to live for, but her relationship with her mother and with herself are so poisonous that even an abundance of talent and loads of good fortune can’t save her in multiple lives, until she recognizes her need to change her perspective - and succeeds in doing it. Following Effie’s gradual enlightenment is absolutely absorbing, with several surprises along the way.
Shawn continues to be the one author I have to read as soon as his books come out. I always pre order so I can start early the next morning. In turn I have gotten my mother in law hooked on the middle falls series and she tends to finish them the day they pop up on her kindle app. The series continues to get better as they go along as it feels like shawn himself is growing as he writes them. It’s almost like he is walking through middle falls on his mind and is exploring a street he hasn’t been down before. I read 60-80 books a year so as an avid reader I can say shawn is in my top 3 authors of all time.
This has been another great book. I have been intrigued from the very start because I always wondered how I could have done things differently in my own life. I can emphasize with Effie because I had a very controlling mother as well. The mention of past characters in the book brought back some memories but I think learning more about the Watchers and how they helped Effie see things differently in each lifetime really helped me understand why they are there. It helps me to feel like there is hope that when I die God will give me an assignment to continue to assist others as I have done while I was working. I have read other books by this author as well and can't wait to see what comes with his next book.
I binge read every Middle Falls book by Shawn Inmon. Couldn't put his books down. Now that I'm caught up, having just completed The Encode Lives of Effie Edenson, I will try to find someone else who is a good at story telling as he is. (I will be disappointed.) Was very happy to hear that he will continue the Middle Falls series. Please keep them coming, Shawn. You have incredible talent!
This one might become one of my top 3 favorites in the series, for several reasons. Along with the author’s consistent penchant for great character development and good storytelling, this story tackles a sensitive issue many people face - eating disorders - without judging or over analyzing the reasons why. Like many of the main characters in the series, Effie is a good person who must overcome circumstances to finally find happiness and fulfillment. She goes through a few lives, of course, before this happens, and the story of her journey and the lessons she learns is very satisfying. This is a well-told story, with engaging characters that keep the reader’s interest throughout the entire book. I highly recommend this series to anyone who just likes great storytelling, regardless of genre.
