This series takes us to whole new levels of understanding of the Oriceran universe. It’s not so much a CHANGE, as deeper explication of how the Kemana, and magic itself, truly function.
This “expansion,” if you will, began in the Evermore Chronicles and continues here. What began as a simplistic concept akin to a storage battery now, quite literally, assumes a life of its own. That’s entertaining in ways I hadn’t expected.
What’s TRULY entertaining, however, as is always the case with what I like to call The Mike and Martha Show, are the characters and their personalities. These characters really are a bunch of characters - acting up and acting out, but always stalwart and true.
More than in any other of their series, this one is truly a portrait of those personalities and less of the story itself. Let me say, that it is a beautiful portrait, at that. The interactions between these people are priceless! Perfectly depicted, it’s amusing and poignant all at once.
So pick this book up, sit yourself down and get ready to enjoy!
