Attention getting Bartlett starts out strong with premise though not original he manages to weave a solid well paced story . but tends to . bog down in minutia but I still recommend the book though toward the end it gets somewhat boring and very predictable!

O.K. first off, above anything else, the author plays, or has played EvE Online. From the backstory, fleet combat actions and make-up, the concepts are taken from EvE. Author also took destroyers up a weight class, making them bigger than cruisers. That irks me a bit, for some odd reason. HOWEVER the author took that framework and made it into a pretty damn good story. He put crews in the ships, where in eve, the ships are piloted by a single near immortal pilot, plugged directly into the ship itself. Anyhow, well done, writer, well done.

Military space opera with historical notes

The main star ships are named for "earth" sea going military vessels wich gives the books reference to familiar points. Very fast paced but in depth action sequences with true to nature events (damage control, interactions between people, action station events.....) A well worth series for any true reader of military space operas

This set contains six books in the First Command: The Spacers series. The author consistently writes Science Fiction stories and series that spark the imagination and are fantastic reads. This six box set is a great way to read six books in the order they were written, without having to find/purchase the next book in the series. Plus the set is a bargain compared to purchasing the six separate books. I highly recommend this author and series.
