5.0 out of 5 starsSuch a sexy Darcy
Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2022
I almost paused my reading to write a review around the two-thirds mark. I didn't care how the book ended, I had made my decision that this was a five-star book. I read a lot of
P&P retellings because I love the characters, but I admit that few are particularly well done, even though I enjoy them. This was a well-done book.

The secondary characters were amusing and not as over-the-top as some authors create (I am particularly tired of books that send Caroline and/or Lady Catherine to the sanitarium). However, it was the author's version of Darcy that won my heart. FINALLY A ROMANCE we can witness. It was lovely to read a book that gave opportunities for Darcy to woo Elizabeth.
This is one I will re-read in the future.

3.0 out of 5 starsA little hard to follow
Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2022
This book has glowing reviews from some of the readers that I've come to trust. That being said, i was surprised when 30% into the book, i was ready for the author to get on with the plot development. Perhaps i was a distracted reader, but i had difficulty tracking which character was speaking throughout the dialog. I found i was flipping back to former pages to figure it out. Part of the confusion has to be attributed to characters being written with a similar voice to another. Some characters (Collins especially) was not recognizable a lot of the time. The D & E banter was nice and the end was fun. However, it was too muddled for me to give it more than 3 stars. Very surprising based on my fav reviewers. 🤷‍♀️

5.0 out of 5 stars delightfully funny story. I love it when ODC come to an understanding early

“An individual can make a change but a team can make a revolution.” –Amit Kalantri, Wealth of Words

Goodness. This was a delightfully funny story. I love it when ODC come to an understanding of their feelings right at the beginning. This Mr. Darcy was vocal in his actions and at times was so funny in his responses to people and situations. I just loved him. He was never fazed by the actions of others. He always seemed to be in control and a step ahead of the nefarious dealings and actions of villains and the scheming b-witch.

Collins was a nightmare. Caroline was an even bigger nightmare and was hoisted on her own petard. Oh, that was so funny. Charles was a scream as he had to deal with Caroline and her suitors. The visitors from Austen’s other works were actually an added pleasure. They were well played and I enjoyed reading about them. The story was a quick read and light in nature. I highly recommend it for a fun and different P&P.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful P&P romp
Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2022

I enjoyed a couple of Ms. Hile's other P&P variants so picked up this one for my Kindle. Although I don't like Austen's other novels, you don't need to have read them to enjoy this delightful, low-angst romance. Added to the usual P&P cast are Tom Bertram from "Mansfield Park", introduced as Darcy's second cousin; and Mr. Philip Elton from "Emma", as a friend of Mr. Collins (and most importantly, still single).

The ODC relationship proceeds without major hiccups, while Caroline's underhanded maneuverings backfire on her in spectacular fashion that fills two separate plot holes in one fell swoop, a neat trick by the author.

I'll be keeping this in my permanent collection. Recommended for all Austen fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silly, madcap, fun, and wonderful

During the short time, from when Elizabeth is nursing a sick Jane at Netherfield Park, until the Netherfield ball, Darcy has a rather rapid epiphany about his feelings for Elizabeth. This is the span of time during which this story occurs, and the author has borrowed characters from a couple of other Jane Austen works to throw into the mix. We have a smarmy but handsome Mr Elton, vicar of Highsbury, from "Emma", and Tom Bertram from Mansfield Park, also handsome and heir to his father.

I love these variations wherein Darcy is allowed to have a personality, and he's in rare form here. Rather than the silent and shy man we usually get, he's wonderfully verbose, teasing, sarcastic, and direct, all things that draw Elizabeth's attention in a positive way. Therefore, I also love Elizabeth in this version since she quickly relinquishes her bad attitude towards Darcy, and gives him a fair chance to succeed with her.

The main villain in this tale is Caroline Bingley, and she's a real doozy! She's a bit over-the-top in her complaints and insults to the Bennetts, and Elizabeth in particular, but the fun gets started when Darcy gives it back to her as good as she gives it. Bingley is given more of a backbone here, and it's his efforts to get Caroline married off that lead him to call in Tom Bertram as a foil to Mr Elton, who he doesn't like.

However, the star of the show here is Darcy. He's swoon worthy and wonderful. The humorous banter is lovely. The dialogue is clever and imaginative. The book is well written and well edited. I recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars A most Romantic Darcy
Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2022

Mr. Darcy is more of a romantic figure, so there is less angst in this tale than in many of this genre. He is ready to admit to himself that he cares for Elizabeth and does not want anyone else securing her favors. He is also not focused on money and connections, but more on helping Elizabeth and intercepting Mr. Collins and other suitors. This Lizzy is witty and impertinent as we expect, and it is sweet to see her picking up on Darcy’s hints about his feelings. Caroline is as obnoxious as always, Lady Catherine does not show up, and Wickham makes a brief appearance and is soon shut down by Elizabeth. There are a couple of new young men brought in to add more possibilities for love interests. I hope this author writes more of this style book (stand alone, single author) as I have enjoyed both that I have found.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun cross-over
Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2022

This lighthearted romp takes place between the assembly and the Netherfield ball and has Darcy and Elizabeth developing a more friendly, bantering sort of companionship pretty early on in their acquaintance. The book is a bit of a P&P cross-over with Emma and Mansfield Park as we have Mr. Elton and Tom Bertram arriving at Netherfield Park. Bingley is worried about Elton's apparent interest in Caroline, so he and Darcy ask the eldest Bennet girls for help. The thought is that Caroline might get tired of Elton if she sees too much of him, so they plan several outings and parties for everyone to spend time together. Wickham makes himself scarce but Mr. Collins is there being the usual wordy nuisance.

This was a fun story with great dialogue. It's a less forbidding Darcy who glares less, talks more and exhibits some chivalry. Elizabeth is surprised to find herself falling for him a bit reluctantly. His Hunsford moment of truth is of a milder variety as the rebuff comes from Mr. Bennet and not from his lady love. I enjoyed this greatly.

Steam level: touching ankles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Adaptation

Enjoyable book. Well-written & charming, it was fun to see the twists and turns this author puts Ms. Austin's beloved characters through in this P&P adaptation. Miss Bingley makes a good substitute villain for Mr. Wickham. He appears briefly but is shut down early in the book so he doesn't cause any mischief, which I am glad of. I never liked him very much so I didn't miss him. I definitely recommend this book.

For those familiar with Jane Austen's works you'll be delighted with the mix of characters from such stories as Mansfield Park, Emma, Sense and Sensibility, and of course , Pride and Prejudice. The interactions of these personalities is interesting as well as entertaining. You won't want to put this story down. Enjoy!

It has been so long since I’ve read a book that literally had me laughing out loud. I enjoyed the addition of other secondary characters. They definitely helped flesh out our main characters. I also loved how fun and playful Darcy is. This is a side of him we don’t get to see too often. I’m here for it! 💕

I loved this version of Darcy. How could Elizabeth not fall in love with him? I know I fell in love with him all over again💘!
And Caroline, how horrible. Even more so than canon, in my opinion. Too bad there League failed....or did it?
I would definitely read this book again.
