How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsNot as good as I had hoped

I love the Maze Runner series, so I was really excited about this sequel. However, I felt like a lot more needed explaining for everything to make sense. We almost needed a prologue to explain what had happened between the last book and this one so we could fully understand what the Godhead was, the Orphans, etc. However, Dashner is a fantastic writer so I really enjoyed this book, and I can’t wait to read the next one!

Honestly, I really wanted to like this book but a good 75% of it dragged. A lot of the characters were easily forgettable, and at times I wished that the author just kept the series finished. But the final quarter for sure gave me hope that this story was worth telling.

I didn't want to get my hopes up that this series could stack up to Maze Runner... It is just as amazing if not better.

2.0 out of 5 stars So incredibly disappointing and disjointed

As a great fan of the original Maze Runner series and the subsequent companion books and prequels, I was so excited to see that James Dashner had decided to explore the Maze Runner world further into the future.
What an incredible disappointment this book was. Even the cover turned out to be a disappointment, as the boat that shows up at the Munie Island is not a magnificent sailing vessel, as shown on the cover, but rather a rusty old yacht that was mostly falling apart. Why on earth they chose that image for the cover, I'll never know.
The characters that we are introduced to in The Maze Cutter are, for the most part, one-dimensional. Isaac, Sadina, Trish, Jackie, Minho, and Roxy are all fairly flat. Minho and Roxy have the most personality, but that honestly isn't saying much. Only one of the main characters appears to have a connection to the OG Gladers, the others have no mention made of their ancestry at all. So, if you thought you were going to get a book that tells you about the lives and ancestors of Thomas, Brenda, Minho, Jorge, Aris, etc. you are going to be vastly disappointed. Old Man Frypan is completely wasted, it is totally unclear why he is even in the book. The only really interesting and well written part of the book is, to me, the prologue. There are lots of interesting theories and ideas bouncing around throughout the novel, but it's like James was never able to really grasp onto them to flesh them out and give them meaning and depth. Every time the story cuts to the group on Alaska, it's just a massive waste of time. Alexandra is a mess, and her entire part of the story could have been explained in one chapter or less, without all of the rambling and rabbit trails going on in her mind. Who are the God-Head, really? Where did they come from and who are they descended from? How did the fanatical religion pop up around the maze? How is it so many people know about Newt and Minho when the infrastructure of the world had crumbled by the time the Gladers and other Munies escaped? So much of The Maze Cutter makes no sense at all.
I really hope that James Dashner and his editor read the critical reviews of this book. The next installment isn't done yet, so please, for the love, take this time to fix the issues! As it is, I'm not sure I care enough to pick up the next installment, whenever it comes out.

2.0 out of 5 stars To long

I’m gonna start by saying that I loved the maze runner series and that Eye of Minds series by James Dashner. But it was weird for this one because it didn’t feel like it was written by him. The parts that were interesting were the first part when they were on the island. The little snippets of the book of Newt. And the final end part when their berg crashes. But other than that, it felt like half of the book could’ve been cut and it still would’ve made sense. I also don’t understand what their goal was in the book. It almost seem like the characters didn’t have fun at all. Also the only characters I really enjoyed listening to were Minho and Alexandra. Issac and his friends just seemed bland and their banter back-and-forth got old after the first couple times they used it in a conversation. So all in all I’d give it two out of five stars. Just because there was a few things I liked about it. But for how long it dragged out certain parts ruined the actual good parts in between that I enjoyed.

2.0 out of 5 stars A long-winded verbose start to another series

The Maze runner had its lengths but it had some entertaining moments. The maze cutter though….the first three quarters introduces utterly forgettable characters. Action starts in the last part but this is action already known and read about: bergs, crashes, cranks. The book ends with what is supposed to be a cliffhanger, hooking you to wait for book 2, and then certainly 3, 4, and God knows what else. Not worth the money.

When you start the book it place 73 years later. To as far as I read they don't tell you what happened in between those 73 years. It has has more cussing than his other books and there was a same sex relationships between 2 girls. I felt dissapointed because he changed his writing style abruptly. If is not broken why fix it. I was a fan of this series, but lost me with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars WE ARE GOING BACK INTO THE MAZE!!!!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 28, 2022
The Maze Cutter by James Dashner.

We are going back into the Maze!!

5 out of 5 stars. If I could give it more, I would! I ordered the special box set back on September 10th and let me tell you, it was everything I had hoped and more! Including a signed first edition of the book!!

The Maze Cutter is a heart-pounding novel that takes me back into the world of my favorite series! I can’t even remember the last time I was up that late finishing a book!! 73 years after the main events of the Maze, the descendants of the original Gladers live on. But they aren’t the only ones. Cranks have evolved and so has the virus. The search for a cure still rages on for there are now many variants of the flare. Everything has changed.
Isaac is among those who live in the Safe Haven which the legends traveled so long ago to find, and he even has a connection to them with the stories of old man Frypan.
An Orphan named Minho lives in the remains of the Scorch and fights off the infected who get too close.
And Alexandria is a member of the Godhead stationed in Alaska who wants something located in the ruins of the Maze.
Leave Everything You Know Behind.
James has outdone himself yet again with the first instalment in this incredible series; I don’t think he could write a bad book even if he wanted to!! I can’t wait to see where he takes it with the next two novels in this amazing series!!

This is the follow up to a series about children being subjected to the worst possible tortures and death, and your concern is that two girls are in love with each other. Just something to consider.
