5.0 out of 5 starsThane Banning strikes again. A great read!

After spending 5 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit, Thane Banning finally feels as if his life is getting back on track. His fledgling law practice is now fully staffed and able to represent others who have been wrongly accused. Thane's relationship with his wife, Hannah, is beginning to return to what it used to be. He's providing steady employment and a reason to stay straight for his former prison friend, Gideon, and a challenging work environment for star attorney-right-out-of-law-school, Kristin. So why would he risk it all to defend the man accused of killing one of his best friends? The answer is complicated and one that pits Thane's moral compass against his wish to protect everything he's fought so hard to regain.
This is a worthy follow-up to Cordell's best-selling novel, "Contempt," the book that first introduced us to Banning. Do you need to read the first book before you read "Conviction"? No, although you'll certainly be hungry to read the prequel if you start with the later book. Like "Contempt," "Conviction" offers twists and turns that (while surprising) can be easily understood by anyone who pays attention to the clues along the way. I hate books that pull a mystery's conclusion out of thin air. Cordell makes sure to lay the groundwork for his reveals carefully and rewards the observant reader.
Looking for an intelligent book with bold, complicated characters? An underdog story where fighting corruption could put lives in jeopardy, but might also possibly save the day? A moving tale of a couple fighting to find their way back to each other? "Conviction" has all of these and more. Give it a try! You'll be glad that you did.
