How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsunique memoir

I really enjoyed this book. A one of a kind memoir of a “ghost girl”. With a unique voice and intriguing story of an entire life on the run, I became instantly dedicated to learning the fate and backstory of the girl with many names. The resilience Cheryl displayed is like no other. Great for book groups or those who enjoy learning the roads others have walked. Highly recommend.

3.0 out of 5 starsthe torments of an insane childhood
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 29, 2021
Don’t really know if this could all be true. Lots of vivid detailed memories of earliest childhood is uncommon. And displaying the sophisticated thinking, not now as she writes but at the time she is experiencing it is hard to imagine. Not much of an ending: don’t know what happened to her family especially her dad. And at the end a lot of waxing poetically about trusting your heart and being true true to yourself.
It was a thrilling beginning but repeated the same story again & again. Didn’t develop much beyond that.

4.0 out of 5 stars fascinating, horrifying autobiography

I read this for one of my book clubs. It isn’t my usual choice of books but I’m so glad we chose it. The story of Cheryl’s life is so strange and crazy that it’s hard sometimes to remember that this isn’t fiction.

Her determination to keep trying to understand her world when the people who should be protecting her are putting her in constant drama and danger is impressive.

Her adventures in gymnastics, swimming, modeling and just living are touching and sad. She tries everything to earn her father’s love and praise, not knowing he is incapable of either.

I loved the ending and will not spoil it for you by describing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book on overcoming life’s many challenges

I could relate on so many levels of course this family was troubled more so than mine, but my children and I went through many hard times and had to rise up. They have done exceedingly well, beyond what I could have done at their ages. It is not your typical book, but then I don’t gravitate to those. I kept cheering for Bhajan throughout the book and hoping something would change. She also reminds me of me in a way that I cannot keep things unsaid which ultimately changes things, and I have seen it do the same in my life for the good and well not so good, but then one cannot wallow in that, one must move forward. Very good read. I would not recommend it to the faint at heart, but if you are daring, yes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing roller-coaster ride of a life!

This roller-coaster ride hits every emotion: fear, joy, excitement, sadness, love and it left me with wanting to give Cheryl a big hug for living through it all.

I first met Cheryl years ago and throughout the years, she's told me snippets of her life. These snippets were just a few stories that made me even more curious.

When she told me she was writing a book, I couldn't wait to read it. I had been waiting for years!

Then I read it.

When someone you don't know goes through a life like this, you might describe it as adventurous. But when it's someone you consider a friend, your heart feels it differently. Few would have survived it. You wouldn't wish it on anyone.

To read about how she was born into a web of lies, running with her family around the world and everything she endured along the way is heartbreaking but you feel her fighting spirit throughout and you want to fight with her.

The strength she developed and the person she has become despite all the hell she went through just shows how much of a survivor she is.

This story is so well told. I had no idea her story was so extreme until I read the life she was led on.

It is an amazing story to read. There's no book like it. It would make a great film and I can't wait to watch it. But the best thing about the book is that she survived to tell her tale.

I highly recommend Nowhere Girl.

Her early childhood is interesting beyond what most can imagine. It turns dark. It does not have a Hollywood ending, but it’s solid and hopeful.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very affecting and unique memoir

Everything Bhajan knew about her relationships and about herself was stripped away from her and she has had to consciously rebuild her sense of self and her place in the world. Her deeply held beliefs about her father and her maternal grandfather had to be re-examined in her search for truth in her life.
I’m sorry the book is over. I’m left wanting to know more, but I trust she will be able to take back her life and move forward.

This book was chosen by my university book club. We all read one book and discuss it along the way for several months. The group is choosing the books to read with a majority vote. This system works well as the book club has chosen riveting books for the two years of its existence.
Nowhere Girl is a gripping nightmare of a child alone in the world. This seems unlikely in a world that wants children...but there are some individuals who don't want them or only want them for work or for profit.
A feral child from Mexico once came to my literacy program---he had no alphabet and spoke in gurgling sounds. That was a sad case. This book reveals how this situation can happen anywhere and brings admiration to the survival skills of the Nowhere Girl.

I really enjoyed this book. Fascinating how Bhajan’s life was so chaotic and how she survived it all. Cheryl writes well and I am so grateful Harbhajan shared her life and I wish her much happiness and wellness. She is, and forever will be Harbhajan.
