5.0 out of 5 starsPlanning and humility are both needed.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

I couldn't guess the villian even though there were so few characters from which to choose. The proverbial finger pointed at everyone at some point. I even wondered if this was a case of an unreliable narrator; maybe Jess was totally nuts?!

I felt sorry for each of the characters that were being manipulated and lied to. None of them deserved what ultimately happened, but they weren't totally innocent either. (Ok... Mo. Mo was totally innocent.)

I liked the way the story ended. All the delusional dreams of the future just smashed. Sort of like those cups on the kitchen floor.

I still can't get over the fact that the villian sent Jess that greeting card.

This was one wild ride of an excellent thriller. Thank you Ms Halsall.

I was amazed at how this book was. It kept my attention completely. This author is one everyone
should get. It has mystery, thrills, and suspense as well as twists and turns. I loved it so much that even though it's close to 3 in the morning, I made sure to order the next one. You don't have to read them in order but I only saw 2 books by this author and wanted to be sure to get it in case it sold out.
Enjoy, I recommend it strongly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compelling and thought-provoking

Jess and Rob mutually agreed that after some years of marriage, neither of them was happy so they decided to separate and file for divorce. They are the parents of a young boy named Toby.

Now, Jess has a partner named Ben who has a 14-year-old daughter named Ruby. Rob has a partner named Carol who has a young son named Mo. As it turns out, the two couples were able to buy the last two semi-detached homes next to one another on a nice estate located on the Isle of Man. While this seems strange, they all get along and realize that the children will be able to have both parents nearby. But when Jess realizes that the backyard fence between the two units has been taken down so the children can play, she wonders if this togetherness may be a little too much.

On the day they are moving in, Ben puts some cards on the mantle from people wishing them well in their new home. All of the cards are nice except for one that is vicious. This bothers Jess and she wonders who could have done such a thing.

When things start happening that make Jess look like a bad person, she is shaken and tries to wonder who is doing this to her. She knows she’s innocent and does what she can to clear her name.

The author sets the plot that makes us wonder about each of the characters, even Jess. While I think that a few things in this story seemed somewhat contrived that made me roll my eyes, all in all it is a compelling read that I think readers will enjoy.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Once again, Rona Halsall has lured me in to her sordid tales and I'm all about it. I wasn't sure what was going on in this one at first but I knew that I wouldn't have been wanting to live next door to my ex. Halsall performs twists and turns to keep her readers guessing and these are always my favorite books so she has cemented herself as one of my favorites for quick, fast paced thrillers!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wild ride with constantly changing suppositions
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 27, 2022
What happens when a divorced but still friendly couple decide to move next door to each other with their new love interests and additional children? Read The Wife Next Door and prepare yourself for the worst that can happen. Jess and Rob have the best intentions so their son, Toby, is not devastated by their divorce. Jess presents as a somewhat scatterbrained woman, almost shell shocked, during the first half of the book. Then the action imploded and the rest was a wild ride with constantly changing suppositions. I had to finish it so I could fall asleep.
Many thanks to Rona Halsall, Bookouture, and NetGalley for affording me the opportunity to read an arc of this recently published psychological suspense gem.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kept Me on the
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 12, 2022
ess and Rob, soon to be exes remain friends and get along well. In the interest of their son, they decide to move in next door to each other, each with their new partner.

While I believe divorce can be amicable, and doing what's best for the kids is always most important, this did not seem like a good idea to me!

At first everything seems wonderful. They all get along and Toby is thrilled to be able to see both his mother and his father whenever she wants.

But then things start to go wrong for Jess. Small things at first. A note. A broken cup. Everyone seems to think she is stressed and over reacting. And when things really go wrong, it's almost like she is the girl who cried wolf. She even doubts herself at times.

This author had me suspecting everyone. I mean EVERYONE. Even Jess' mom was on my radar.

Then you get to the twist and I was shocked! Very clearly written and kept me on the edge of my seat!

4.0 out of 5 stars Gripping and intense
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 12, 2022
“It was meant to be the perfect break up…”

I liked the premise for this tale and it’s uniqueness in having an ex couple, now with new partners who also haven children, living next door to each other for the sake of their young son. It was really interesting to see how that dynamic played out, at first quite well, until it all wasn’t…

My heart went out to Jess who Halsall really puts through the wringer! I could feel her stress when strange things start occurring and the hits just kept on coming! I did have my suspicions as to who was behind it all, but in true Halsall fashion, she pulled the wool over my eyes!

This is such a great read and one that kept me up well past my bedtime! So gripping and intense, it really got the heart racing! Well written and executed, the pace is a fast and one more chapter turned into another, then another. All round a very entertaining read I recommend for lovers of psychological thrillers.
